I got an X800XT and ran 3dmark 03 for the first time. My CPU (a AMD64 3500+) only scored 811 when most comparable AMD64's score about 4000-5000. I've always noticed something weird about my performance in the past, and attributed it to my lack of RAM... but it seems it really is the processor. Anyone have experience with this?
I've always noticed my younger brother's pentium4 2.4ghz seemed more... solid when it came to gaming, even with lower framerates.

Rest of specs? Temperatures?
What's windows reporting the speed is on the processor?
I had this problem (with my laptop) but it wasn't from 3dmark scores. My laptop is an AMD64 (1.6GHz ... forget if it's 2800 or what) and Windows showed it running at 799 MHz.
sounds like your bios settings are borked.
you might get better feedback if you read this:

Alright. I reset my BIOS to "Default Setup" and saved it as such. I installed the stuff that came with my mobo, including ASUS Probe for temps. After running 3dmark03 it sat at 48C.
Every time I run 3dmark03 my CPU gets 820-824 points. I've run it several times now (AI Overclocking on Standard, Default BIOS settings, post-mobo software/driver installs) and get the same result.
When I installed Windows, I got the newest 4in1 chipset drivers from VIA. I installed the ones from the CD and there wasnt a change.
Is it possible that I need to update my BIOS or something similar?

What drivers are you running?

Do the CPU tests in 3dMark with all the graphics turned down to minimum (lowest resolution, no AA etc) a couple times. If that scores equally low, then it's the CPU or the RAM, otherwise the vid card.
Btw, you really need more RAM.

find cpuz run that see if the speeds are correct.

that's because your processor was throttling its speed during idle. windows reports mine as 598 sometimes, and the full 1.6 other times.
