Just got a new machine in for my brother. Every time I try to install XP I get file corruption errors. Each time it seems to be a different file. I tried using both Professional and home with no luck. Suggestions?

Make sure your using the right drivers. Also are you hitting f6 to install the sata drivers? If not you can get that error.

Are you reformatting or just installing ?

I'm even getting corruption errors when using the right drivers (on a floppy that came with the system). This is the first install. I ordered it without a video card (had one) or windows (have it already)
The corruption can happen all the time even before it lets me try to add the drivers.
edit: to clarify the one time where it got to the point I could install the drivers I got a corruption error on the a drive.

One thing though. Before you rma that drive test your ram in another computer like crypt said it could be that. But if another drive works on that comp then RMA it.

Especially when the motherboard does not come with a floppy with the drivers, and your computer with internet access is in pieces on the floor. If you've tried two different XP installs (that is the #1 cause usually), then it most likely the RAM.

I'm thinking DVD player now. First of all the jumper set it as a slave. Also the driver floppy that came with it was bad. Now I get through all of that and then 50% through the actual install then it takes a shit.
I left it at work last night, tonight I'm going to swap the dvd player with a cd player from work and try it out.
Thanks for the help guys!

ugh, I am going insane. I have 3 sticks of memory, I tried switch them out and around (not all 3 sticks could be bad) with no luck. I tried swaping the hard drive and the dvd player, nothing! I tried switching the ports the HD and DVD rom plug into, I tried switching the cables that connect to the hard drive. NOTHING!
It always seems to fail when it's writing the files to the hard drive. Everything else is fine it seems. What a fucking headache!

I still say its the memory.

At this point I am truly clueless. I should say that when I changed it back to the dvd rom it reboots instead of getting the corruption issue. With the CD rom the machine would simply freeze. I couldn't even turn the power off when that happened. I had to unplug it.

Shit man, you were right.
I swapped it out with ram from my other pc and it just worked. Thanks!

Glad I could help. Had that problem about 4 days ago.
