Cliffs:
A guild has booted a member and many of others.
Reason: One member is deaf and can't use vent, others stuck up for him, offered to explain fights etc.
Guild leader is a fuckhead...

I saw this like 5 minutes ago and thought it was kind of funny.

Upon actually looking at the screenshots the guild leader was a dick, it's still kind of funny though.

Had he not kicked the other people for arguing with him, I would have supported his decision. Demolition doesn't use vent, but if we did, and it was required, we'd be perfectly justified in booting someone that won't, or can't, use it.

All the people screaming discrimination and threatening with the ADA piss me off a lot more than the original kicking does anyway.

From a neutral standing point and experience from a guild that requires you to have vent and other programs, what would I have done?

I dunno, anyone that has vent problems, numerous disconnects every raid..is kicked from the guild after a certain time, we just can't slow down for ONE person, it's been months of this happening and we are tired enough of it as it is.

The fact's this deaf guy is pulling the 'I'm deaf this is discrimination im calling the ADA' card is fucking rediculous. Despite the fact he is probably just an able player like anyone else, he wants special care because of his disability?


Personally i'd have just kept the guy, there's nothing wrong.
However. If he did become a slow down or inconvenience, just like any other person in the guild, be it just generally being a slow fucktard, not doing his job, afk'ing all the time, not paying attention. Comp problems, net problems. /gkick.

The voice communications are kinda important though, as in real life we have a sign language made for deaf people, but in WoW? sadly, no. The game caters to the masses and yeah $$. My guild leader fucking screams his ass off at everyone during PvE raids, and PvP is even worse. How is the deaf man gonna feel bad when he gone done something wrong and don't even know it. We can't hire a guild member to type this stuff too him.... hahaha.

Someone should get the deaf kid a parrot for christmas.

We had guys that played on Mac's that couldn't get on TS. Unless he's supposed to be calling out things, there's text mods that take care of 90% of the PvE necessity for voice chat.

if they were to try it out and it didn't work, then who cares why they cut him loose, it's simple, he couldn't use vent.

Are they being too strict? probably, but they have every right to be... just because you or i would choose differently it doesn't make them wrong

This same thing happened on our server and we picked up the deaf guy.

He didn't hinder us the first time we downed nef.

Come to think of it, being deaf would kinda be an advantage in raiding from a certain point of view. You can't use sound cues or sound effects of any kind to help coordinate your attacks/patterns, so you can just turn off sound altogether
and dedicate more RAM to rendering the dozens of players and mobs onscreen all at once.

i actually think being deaf would make you a better player in sn considering our vent is akin to a jungle :D

the hardest part was knowing when we were starting and when to get the pally buffs (5 mins ono)

The deaf dude says he asked around, and as told that VENT WAS NOT A REQUIREMENT FOR THE GUILD.

Once I read that, I kind of switched back to my usual middle-of-the-fence position...Both sides really have a good point.

I know...I turn it on basically whenever I'm in a big guild run or a raid for the important stuff like loot bidding and pre-boss strategy, but otherwise I don't bother, because all that random chatter eventually starts to make my head hurt (of course, it doesn't help that I usually have my headphones on full blast during said chatter).

vent isn't even needed for 90% of the shit in endgame content

between everything having a mod that broadcasts over ct 9 thousand times, saying it in the raid chat, and pm'ing you about 5 times from 3 different people when you have debuffs like living bomb, burning adren, etc.. vent only makes it worse. instead of just the raid chat, your screen, and tells getting flooded you have about 20 people in vent screaming the same exact shit.

My thoughts on this are about how retarded it is, that not only does he kick the deaf person, for being that, but he kicks those that stick up for him. It's not hard for people to work without vent, as a matter of fact, it's quite easy. Vent is more of a luxury that makes things slightly easier than something that is really needed. All ours really includes about WoW is "Heal [tanknamehere]" spam and the occasional sentence to someone in particular about doing their thing, which could quite capably be typed out.

Other than that vent is more social and jokes than anything else ~
