My own studies on the matter, have led me to believe the following points, which many historical revisionists have come up with:

Most people don't actually know many of the events that lead to the holocaust -- a rather strange circumstance given the amount of attention given to the holocaust itself. At the onset of the war, the Germans had a plan for the Jews, but it was not to exterminate them -- it was to move them out of the country. So in that respect, the above statement is true. The Germans tried to ship them out to other countries, but the other countries just flat out refused, because quite frankly, other European countries hated the Jews just as much as the Germans did. It's sad that people view the Germans of the WWII era as being unique in their disdain for Jews.

Stanley Tucci starred in a good movie about one event that allegedly played a critical role in starting the holocaust. Unfortunately there is no real documentation of the event, so we don't know what truly happened there, but it's a good movie nontheless. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266425/
