Comp on the fritz

Here's my problem -

At apparently random times, my monitor will appear to lose connection to my vid card. Basically, a sudden black screen but my computer itself seems to act no different. However, a test with a voice com program proved that it isn't just losing signal to my monitor...everything is shutting down without an actual shutdown.

After re-seating most everything I could and tightening and re-tightening my connections, my computer wouldn't even POST on startup. After 30 minutes of profanities, I reseated everything again, and now it's "fine" (until the screen goes black again, I'm sure).

This has been an on-again, off-again problem for some time. No hardware changes from since it was working fine. It seems like it happens more when I'm running some application (WoW, IE, etc.), but that's hardly a fair appraisal as I pretty much always have something running if my computer's on.

I'd post specs, but I doubt that really has anything to do with it. All these parts worked fine up until this issue, and we're talking a long period of no problems. Some of these parts ARE almost 3 years old, so I suppose it could be a need for replacement. If that's the case, what parts should I look at as being faulty in a situation like this? Power supply? Mobo?

Any help would be appreciated, TW Tech Gods.

You got a Radeon, don't you? Make sure FastWrite is off, and turn down the AGP speed to 4x.
