Computer crashes every day minutes after the first bootup but fine afterwards?

Ok here's my problem,
A few weeks ago my family computer started to crash randomly while playing games. I suspected a psu problem because of the shitty powmax psu it was running on, but I didn't do anything because I didn't think it was too much of a problem. Then the crashing became worst, first it would not be able to run a game without crashing, then it would just crash while not running games. Soon it became unuable and just sat there. I finally decided to get the thing working again and replaced the psu, as well as freshly formatting the harddrive. The next day when I started it with literally nothing but xp and a antivirus installed, it crashed. It worked fine over the entire day, I thought it was a fluke. The next day the same thing happened, it crashed a few minutes after being booted up for the first time that day and was fine afterwards. Next day same thing, I begin to suspect the bad psu somehow damaged my harddrive, but I run chkdisk and the maxtor harddrive diagnostic and come up with nothing. Anyone ever see anything like this? The bluescreen error was always STOP: 0x0000000A IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, but today I got a new one, STOP 0x00000024.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with one of the mechanical components(HD,CD-RW,DVD-ROM) since it only crashes after the first time you start it. Maybe it could be a virus?(I formatted my windows partition only) Any Ideas?

First, more info. Detailed specs of system? CPU? Motherboard? RAM? Vidcard?

Second, I don't know why you're making the assumption that it's a mechanical component. Nothing in your description indicates that it's mechanical. It could easily be your CPU that's screwed up, or your memory, or your motherboard. Without more info, there's really no way of telling.

Third, if you suspect a component, remove it and see what happens.

Fourth, go into your BIOS and look for a screen that has your CPU temperatures in it and see what they are.
