Surge 09-25-2005, 10:32 PM atm i have
eye of flame
drakefire amulet
dragonrider boots
enchant on cloak
FR class trinket
and i'm still trying to pick up the +10 wand, a ring or two (but christ they are all like 150g on arthas.. gg) and the +10 offhand from the darrowshire quest
anything else? i've seen a good list for rogues, works for druids too, but havent seen one for casters. ive thought about the wizardweave stuff, but you lose WAY too many stats with that shit.
also, tidal loop is out of the question right now. im TRYING to build up FR for my trial in this guild, that takes down rag every week, but seeing as how you need to go into MC numerous times for the loop, plz dont list it <3
btw i'm aiming for about 100 unbuffed FR
with the gear i have now (unless i missed something in the list) i have 52 FR i think. shitty. :(
FalseMyrmidon 09-25-2005, 11:10 PM Rather than Eye of Flame try Starfire Tiara.
Red_October 09-26-2005, 12:30 AM I have around 130 unbuffed
i use:
Starfire Tiara
Ony Pendent
Chromatic Cloak with +7 FR
Arcanist Bracers
+5 stat bonus from magisters
Dragon Rider Boots
+10 Trinket from DM
+8 Ward of the Elements
+17 FR Ring (farmed from elementals in un goro)
+15 Tidal Loop
You could always use the wild fire cape, but other then that most FR gear is either epic or shitty greens. I'm not sure why the guild wouldn't take you through the rest of MC before just doing Rag. My guild doesn't let recruits on Rag raids...but anyhow tidal loop is definetly the way to go.
FalseMyrmidon 09-26-2005, 01:12 AM Check out Smokey's Drape. It's a quest item with like 10 FR and 10 Stam or something along those lines.
Bohica 09-26-2005, 02:38 AM get some flarecore made
scandal 09-26-2005, 02:47 AM get some flarecore made
Bohica 09-26-2005, 05:24 AM from memory...
flarecore mantle: 24fr
flarecore gloves: 25fr, 10 stam, 14 int
flarecore chest: 15fr, 35 stam, +23 dmg (used to be +29 fire dmg)
flarecore leggings: 16fr, 21 stam, +43 dmg (used to be +53 fire dmg, i believe. i nearly cried when they announced the change :/)
if all you want is lots of FR, get the mantle and/or gloves. if you want some FR, lots of stam, lots of +dmg, get the chest and/or pants.
Surge 09-26-2005, 06:58 AM flarecore is so expensive :(
time to farm
FalseMyrmidon 09-26-2005, 10:53 AM Boh, how would that +fire damage help you out on Rag anyways?
Calder 09-26-2005, 11:05 AM Boh, how would that +fire damage help you out on Rag anyways?
They changed it to all damage last patch.
Calder 09-26-2005, 11:07 AM Arcanist Crown +20 FR
Drakefire Amulet
Flarecore Mantle
Fireproof Cloak
Arcanist Robes
Arcanist Bracers
Arcanist Gloves
Arcanist Belt
Dragonslayer's Signet
Mage Trinket
=
Leetest FR gear evar. It goes out to ~150 unbuffed
Calder 09-26-2005, 11:10 AM I posted this on our guild forums quite a while ago:
Head: Starfire Tiara (+10 Fire Resist) -- This one is sorta hard to get, as it is off a rare spawn in UBRS (the one before Rend right by Anvilcrack. If the guild gets any Rend runs going, all cloth wearers should try to get this piece :)
Neck: Drakefire Amulet (+15 Fire Resist) -- If you're coming to fight Rag I sure hope you have your onyxia key :)
Shoulder: IF YOU HAVE A LOT OF MONEYZ -- Flarecore Mantle (+24 Fire Resist) -- This piece is BoE - I can make it - Give me mats and I will.
Chest: Honestly I would stick with your normal chestpiece. Arcanist has +10 and seems to drop a lot :)
Waist: The only real fire resist belt is Arcanist Belt (+7 Fire Resist) - so just stick with what you have.
Legs: Run Scholo with somebody that has Dawn's Gambit - and hope that you get Skullsmoke pants, because those thinks freaking rock anyways, and they have (+10 fire resist).
Feet: Either get Dragonrider boots off of Rend, or Fire Striders off of the last boss in StratSM (+10 or +15 Fire Resist)
Wrists: Ideally Arcanist Bindings, or you can farm Incendius for the blue bracers of the eagle of intellect.
Gloves: Doesn't really matter. Keep whatever you have.
Rings: If you can, get the head off of Onyxia (it sells for cheap) which has (+10 Fire Resist), and if you didnt sell it like I did, the Tidal Loop (the reward for the quest to summon Domo)
Trinkets: Use your mage trinket from DM (+10 Fire Resist) and Ward of the Elements (reward from the Onyxia Key quest) There is also one from LBRS off of Wyrmthalak that increases Fire Resist by 20 for 5 minutes, which drops pretty often.
Wand: Torch of Austen or Flaming Incinerator, two BoE blue world drop wands that you see on the AH a lot (+10 Fire Resist).
RECAP:
Head: 10 (+20 FROM LIBRAM)
Neck: 15
Shoulder: 0
Chest: 0
Waist: 0
Legs: 10 (+20 FROM LIBRAM)
Feet: 15
Wrists: 7/10
Gloves: 0
Rings: 25-40
Trinkets: 20
Wand: 10
= 160 Fire Resist BASE
Add +60 from Pally Aura
Add +15 from Mage Armor
=235 Fire Resist
That is more than enough for a mage. You could even phase out some for more +int and +dmg once you get to that point. In the end its just about how much effort you put in to collecting this stuff.
Bohica 09-26-2005, 01:27 PM I wasn't thinking about Rag when I had mine made.
Surge 09-26-2005, 08:54 PM woot calder hows your mage coming along? have a profile link?

He's a noob with full arcanist that still manages to pull aggro even with all of the -threat effects from gear, talents and BoS...
(I know they don't stack).

Only when noobs like you tank :)
Suegamer 09-28-2005, 10:29 AM Ok I just made a mage and I was wondering about the talents and how to use them, so from what you have in your talents you went with a lot of arcane. Is Arcane better to have then say Frost or Fire?
Calder 09-28-2005, 12:57 PM Mages have 3 viable talent trees.
Go wherever you want, but it is probably always Arcane/Fire or Arcane/Frost (no frost/fire noobstuff)
You either go heavy in frost/fire or heavy in arcane.
Its up to you, but I would say at level 60 you should *always* have arcane up to evocation at least.
