New to BF2 - few questions plz. [Controls]

I have a funky control setup. Problem is I try and and set some keys and they say they are in use. I looked everywhere and they are not in use!!! What can i do to completely remove all controls, so I can set what i want?

select the key, and hit escape to clear it.

realize you have common controls, ground controls, vehicle controls... shitload of tabs

yeah you really should set all your vehicle controls first

I've had very little luck setting up my key binds in game, I resorted to editing the controls.con file located in your My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001 folder in notepad. Some keys can have duplicate function, one key can be assigned to get in/out of vehicles and still be used to pick up a kit off the ground, use the same key you use for crouch to "crouch" while you're in a vehicle gun turret/stationary gun implacement.

I removed every control for every unit in the game. No go. It still says that shit is in use.

is it really that hard for a game co to develop a control config screen that works? T1 got it right, all the quake games are intuitive, but oh no, bf has to be so fucking complicated!

why cant there just be a remove all button.

Is here a file I need to view and manually edit?

yes, someone says what file 3 posts above yours. if you start a thread asking for help, it helps to read the responses...

hey your config files are located in your my documents folder
think the folder with name 0 or 1 or somethin like that has all the config files
they can be read with notepad
search through the different areas in the file for the control your trying to set and delete the line. Go back in game assign your controls and your set.

i had same problem but fixed it super easy that way

there is a remove all, back up your default controls first, then delete the contents inside the file.
go ingame, set to default, and it makes everything blank
you will need to add some back in manually

C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001\Controls. con

edit this with notepad and search for the control
