It's hard to predict what one would do if in his shoes, though. If you're cut off from news and unaware of the gravity of the situation, I would think most people here would protect their homes and the posessions that made it through the disaster.

Suppose you were a cop confronting someone who was stealing and he reached for what you thought was a pistol and you shot him to save your life and any other officers around...happens all the time in the line of duty.

Now suppose you were a fortified man protecting his neighborhood because no cops could help you and the same thing happened. I don't think it's morally wrong to stop someone from stealing something or else there would be no cops, especially if it benefits your safe being from future harm. The killing only occurs after the offending person tries to harm you for stopping them from doing something morally wrong in the first place.

This is about the best way I can explain the outlook I have for it. If it makes me a dumbass then tag my title. :(
