That is all well and good, but how could one predict A) the scope of the disaster and B) the scope of violence resulting from it?
You can't.
Code4 stated that he expected everything to return to normal after a few days. Only later realizing that the lives of him and everyone who stayed behind were in danger.

It is pointless arguing over this.
You're not very intelligent.

Thats the thing, they couldnt. Code4 was probably of the same mindset as the others who stayed behind, keep the looters away for a few days, and help with repairs and stuff while the repair crews move through and restore things.

It was after the flooding started when they realized shit was turning really sour. For the first two days afterwards, it was just like after any other hurricane, and then the reports of looting and gun store break ins would put anybody on high alert. That would give me good reason to start carrying a weapon when I walk around an emptied out neighborhood. And should I come across some kid with a pistol stealing shit, well, I'd have to say Code4 was a nice guy about it. He could have given the kids more than what they could ever bargain for, and leaving with one less friend.

Now, after a day where you had to confront some pistol toting kid trying to steal things from your neighborhood, you would be on edge for god knows how long. Having to try to sleep while hearing gunshots ring out from the city is probably not going to help ease your nerves. After that point, its shoot to kill anybody who even looks like a threat. Code4, if his story is true, did what he could to keep himself alive, and protect the neighborhood.

It only takes so long for people to realize that something isnt really right with the recovery effort when looting, gun toting thugs start prowling. You have to change mindset really quick, or you may end up dead. As for your philosophy on whether or not they should have approached the looter they shot, well, he certainly didnt have any business there, and he knew it. He didnt have to have a weapon, and could have just put the TV down. Instead, he made a threatening move to reach for a weapon. Though they didnt know it was there, at that point, questions come second to instinct.

Your hypothetical scenario was based upon the premise that their neighborhood would have armed, assumingly hostile, civilians running around. As I pointed out, one would not predict this to be the case and would therefore not take it into consideration when deciding on whether or not to evacuate.

Thankyou for a rational explanation, though one I do not necessarily agree with.

I do find it funny that some of the people railing against poor blacks for not leaving are cheering on someone with transportation, Code4, for staying.

uh
ppl were railing on the blacks that needed to get rescued cause they were stuck on roofs. code4 stayed, but he was just without power and shit and had the ability to leave without getting rescued. theres a big difference

Do you live in a hurricane prone area?

Do tornadoes or corn fields count as hurricane prone?

Okay, so no.

So, you know nothing of how to prepare for a hurricane, or what options are left to you. You know nothing of recovering from a hurricane, and you say he should have left. He didnt leave for the same reason I dont leave when hurricanes hit, I stay not to protect my stuff (although, I will now), but to recover ASAP after the storm clears. I get out and fix shit up, and help my neighbors, make necessary phone calls, etc. He didnt stay so he could shoot dirty looters. Nobody, except for some of the nutjobs, stays to keep looters out.

stop is overused, and completely unneccessary in most cases. Rayn is getting sick of it, from my understanding. The racism in general, not just the word.
