cancer 09-05-2005, 03:11 PM i just got the game. it's fkin tight but i don't really have an idea of what i should be doing. i just try to kill people i see. lots of times i get killed but i can't see who shot me ;\
what is pick up kit? how do i use the kit? i have tons of questions, but i don't even know where to begin. i just need some tips to get started.
shadowwolf 09-05-2005, 03:23 PM g, and take it easy, make sure you're visually checking everything your eyes can before going into an area.
PyroTeknik 09-05-2005, 04:02 PM Spend some time learning the maps, especially if you spend a lot of time on foot. Ambush spots will become apparent very quickly and you'll find out that people tend to camp/hold in the same places.
Also, avoid running like a headless chicken towards a flag, especially if you've just lost it.
Dangerdoggie 09-05-2005, 04:19 PM Memorize where all the spawn points are, chances are that you’re already getting spawn killed a lot so try to keep a mental picture of where you are every time you spawn in and die.
You can pick-up fallen kits off of dead guys, G key is the default. Join a squad (ones with atleast three or four people working together, you can tell this when you join a squad and see if the squad members are near each other working as a team or all over the map), set your spawn in point to your squad leader, be a medic and watch other people play the game while you offer them up health kits and revive them (if you can do so without getting killed in the process)
You'll need to do a lot of your customization to your key-binds out of game by editing the controls.con file located in your My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001 folder.

DwarfVader 09-05-2005, 05:12 PM Learn to fly on your own time, get a feel for the aircraft or helo's, before just jumping in one as a pub and becoming a human lawn dart.
cancer 09-05-2005, 05:19 PM i don't plan on flying...planes isn't my thing.
Dangerdoggie 09-05-2005, 05:54 PM
default key-binds ftw, okay you may not need to but when you get that "key is already in use" message you'll need to edit the controls.con file with notepad.
How about an example, you can crouch while in a gunner position in a vehicle, default key is left control, want to change this to C key? oops, can't do that in game.
controls.con file:
ControlMap.create LandPlayerInputControlMap
.
.
.
ControlMap.addKeyToTrigge rMapping c_PICrouch IDFKeyboard IDKey_C 0 0
instead of IDKey_LeftCtrl.
G key to pickup a kit? too far away, how about using the E key instead.
ControlMap.create InfantryPlayerInputContro lMap
.
.
.
ControlMap.addKeyToTrigge rMapping c_PIDrop IDFKeyboard IDKey_E 10000 0
but hey, whatever works for you.
read up on what the capabilities of each class are.
vehicles are key. if you see an APC or a tank, hop into it. if you see an empty chopper at the enemy flag and you can't fly, hop into it and get into the gunner seat and start tearing shit up.
the machine guns on the jeeps and vodniks work as very good AA, but other than that you don't want to be using them much, since 1 AT shot will blow the jeep and anything in it.
95% of this game is suprise. you want to use the UAV to get the drop on someone not looking. do NOT play it like CS and go for face to face shootouts.
cancer 09-05-2005, 06:11 PM aww. i was gonna play it just like cs :(

Find a low ping 24/7 Strike at Karkand server, no aircraft to pester you just tanks and APC's. When the othe maps start to piss me off there's nothing like playing on a dedicated SaK server.

it's ok, i already mapped out some of the keys. i just did it the old fashioned way by going through the menu.

I was able to bind mine just fine, don't know what your problem was.
I-C-E 09-05-2005, 07:03 PM Indeed..why do it the hard way?
The only thing i had to manual change was to change mouse axis to secondary in chopper.
onthelam 09-05-2005, 07:14 PM Arrow users like myself had to edit many of them manually.
Dangerdoggie 09-05-2005, 07:18 PM 1.02 patch must have fixed it then, I thought I tried it since the patch and still couldn't get somethings to work but it's been awhile.

BEAST420 09-06-2005, 01:12 PM Heres good newbie tips:
Dont ever shoot full auto unless you are prone and can control your weapon.
Double tap your rifle unless you are USMC Assault, which defaults to 3 round burst.
Dont get too close to a moving vehicle because it WILL kill you.
F [a] C E 09-07-2005, 02:21 AM - non usmc sniper rifle recoil will probably decide your accuracy. wait until the recoil is *over* before taking the next shot. 2 in the head will kill anything, whereas there's a good chance 3-4 in the body will only result in your death.
- on AA turret/vehicle, wait for whatever you want to blow up to drop countermeasures, then fire as soon as you've reestablished a lock. should be before their CM reloads -- either way it's more dependable than the AA missiles reaching aircraft before cms drop which is a total crapshoot :/
- don't bother switching your AK to single shot. trusssst me. best case scenario you have the same accuracy w/ tapping in FA. worst case you engage someone close-med range forgetting it's on single and you're dead.

I disagree, long/med(if they aren't looking and shooting at me) range I use single shot. As far as forgetting its on on single, well it used to happen to me until I forced myself to always switch it back to full auto when i'm done with single shot. If he's far enough to warrant single, you've got time to switch to single.
