Buried in the August 20th edition of The Independent was this interesting development, concerning that which is known as IGN/Gamespy.
Another day and news of yet another internet purchase by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. In recent months Mr Murdoch has embarked on an internet buying spree worthy of the dot.com gold rush. Admire or despise him, Mr Murdoch is one of the world's canniest media tycoons, so what's he up to?

The latest object of News Corp's attentions is IGN Entertainment, which specialises in video games news and male lifestyle sites and would cost north of $800m to buy.
Yes, you heard that right, the company who thought family guy should be cancelled is thinking about buying out the largest gaming review site on the planet, for $800m no less. Will the reviews be fair and balanced? That remains to be seen.

This would suck. Hollywood is so far from understanding gaming, although Gamespy and IGN are pretty much payola sellouts these days anyways.

IGN and gamespy are already worthless, but this might actually be the only way they could get worse.

Hmm, an interesting move, though I can't see it doing any good for IGN. I assume that he's planning to buy the entire IGN network, which consists of more sites than many people realise (see the dropdown menu in the top-right of this page (http://corp.ign.com/)). I bet the ad revenue that these sites make is unbelievable.
