If I were to replace a motherboard and CPU, but leave everything else the same (hdd, os, ram, etc), will i need to reinstall OS? Or can i just take a HDD, plug it in the new mobo and continue workign like nothing happend.
I had ASUS mobo, will I need same or can I use MSI or some other. Whats a good one these days. I have Athlon XP 3200+

You'll need to reinstall.

The type of mobo you should get depends on three things: socket type, budget, and your plans to overclock.

No plans for overclocking. But is there any way to make this work without reinstalling?

Seriously man, why do you ask if you're not gonna believe anything anyone says? :P

google "sysprep" and do some reading. On my home PC I typically just backup all my files and do a fresh install.
