Console Wars is reporting that Walmart employees are reporting the XBOX 360 launch price to be $299.99 and launch titles to be $59.99. It's great that the 360 won't break the 299 price point, however I'm not too thrilled about the increase in price of games. I understand that the cost of producing games is increasing, but the number of people buying games is also increasing. If anything, games should be going down in price, not up. Sadly, this means there will be less games coming out that take risks, and we'll probably see more cookie cutter style games.

Cost of hardware over software is fundamental. MS stands to lose 3 to 4 hundred dollars per-system out of box, if not more. Therefore costs of royalties for the first year are higher per title. That’s also why you only see A++ titles at launch, or should I say A++ titles with the backing of a A++ pocket book. They are the only ones at first who can fit the cost of the DEV tools. I'm sure you'll see a sprinkle of 44 - 49 dollar titles spread across the launch window (first 6 months), but don’t expect any value software of 29 or less until the first year of 360.
Oh that’s unless you port over T:V of course ....
not that i care but aren't the big games called AAA games not A++ games

I read an interesting article which i think is related to this in one of the EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly) magazines. According to them they were doing research on the possibility that companies might be increasing the price of games. The price increase was based on the fact that according to companies, when they released a special edition package for their games and sold it around 80 or 90 bucks that they usually sold out and they couldnt produce enfough. I also remember reading that the company said that it on one hand it was really a test to see if consumers were willing to pay more then $50 for a game. I cant remember what company was intervied or what game they were talking about.
