<a href="http://www.trepaning.com/">Trepaning</a> (site down at time of posting) has released a mod for Doom 3: Dark, Dumb and Dark. The mod is basically chess, allowing you to battle your wits against other players while holding just the torch, for-going the tape script. I dare say this mod will hold my attention far longer then Doom 3 the game did, which wouldn't actually be that hard.
