G-Force 07-05-2005, 12:44 PM Diamond Stealth Radeon 9600SE S100AGP 128MB Video Card
Thinking of maybe picking this card up. Apparently my current vid card 9200 is not compatible with this game.
Is this a decent card for $149.00 Canadian?
Also, are video cards hard to install? I've never done it before.
Thanks guys.
cyanide 07-05-2005, 12:46 PM if you want to run it on all low settings,
yeah video cards are easy to install provided you arent retarded
Dangerdoggie 07-05-2005, 01:23 PM It's the sum of all parts by the way, not just your video card.

bladewalker 07-05-2005, 02:14 PM I have a 9600XT 128mb and I run the game smoothly on medium settings at 1024x768 with only visible distance turned up to 100. I get choppiness in huge combats but it's always playable.
Mainly you need a solid cpu and at least a gig of ram.
G-Force 07-05-2005, 03:28 PM I have a gig of ram and 2.6 p4 so that should be no problem, just need to upgrade my video card.
Th3Cleaner 07-05-2005, 04:31 PM I have a
3.6Ghz P4 (Water cooled)
1GB of XMS PRO (500Mhz) dc
Abit IC7
BFG 6800 OC (256)
I can max everything (2xAA) 1280x resolution and still get 70-100 FPS super smooth game play with zero shutter or tear.
I installed the X800XL right before I took it back and installed a BFG, I can honestly say the BFG kicks the SH** out of the X800XL.
It is all pref.
onthelam 07-06-2005, 03:14 AM i'll sell you my 9600aiw for that much, its a bit faster than the se
no seriously, for 50% more cash you could probably find a 9800pro, and get twice the performance
naptown 07-06-2005, 06:15 AM x700 256 is what i got

First off, BFG is a card mfg, not the card itself. Secondly, every review, shows the X800XL being faster than the 6800GT. Looks to beuser error on your part.
cyanide 07-06-2005, 09:09 AM for people saying they run the game on medium without any problems on this card or an equally crappy piece of shit, theyre lying or dont realize 20 fps is a problem
my 9800pro 128mb can hardly run it on medium without fps dipping
dont sell yourself short with a card you'll have to upgrade in a month when you realize you made a horrible choice
buy at least a 9800pro 256mb
you're going to want to use AA, makes the game look 10x better
and you'll need enough ram to support the medium textures & gemoetries and shit

Yea the second you crank up AA the 6800 is crap compared to an x800. Same goes for the GT vs the x800XL. P.S. My 9600 Pro 128 (agp) is better than my brothers 6600 256 PCI Express.

Friend has a 9600Pro 128mb w/ 1gb RAM and 2.8ghz P4.
All settings on medium @ 1024 with viewing distance maxed. Never dips below 35. Clean out the shit on your comp that's slowing you down.

Same for my system except replace the Pro with a XT and the 2.8 with a 2.6 and my fps is solid. Clean up, defrag, etc is all I can say.
cyanide 07-06-2005, 12:33 PM nothing clogging up my computer
every tweak guide, every winxp optimization, defrag, registry cleaner etc.
boot with 65mb being used
reinstall uninstall
i guess the game either agrees with your computer or it doesnt
but i would suggest not buying a 2 year old card either way :-)
unless you want to count on your computer being one of those magical daveg setups :-P
Arcanox 07-06-2005, 01:29 PM Save up for the 9800 Pro, I can run it at some high settings. The really intensive ones are at medium. To be honest though, for the most part it really looks all the same to me. Having it on High/Medium opposed to all High, and I can maintain around 58 FPS at all times.
2 gigs of ram is nice to have, but I'm running on a gig and it seems to be alright. I might consider picking up another stick in a few months.

Yeah I agree about the card; if you're gonna get a new one, might as well last. The X800XL and 6800GTs are great bang for the buck (maybe GT prices have dropped with the GTX release?).
I still find it strange that you're getting such poor FPS with a 9800Pro; my desktop (which I don't really use) is a 2.4 P4/1 gb RAM/ 9700 Pro, and I even run with a few settings on high and get good FPS. How much RAM you got and what proc?

in short, no.
OpticNerve_ 07-07-2005, 01:48 PM Well im ordering a new machine on monday. AMD 64 3000+, x800xl 256 and Corsair 2x512xms, any ideas for the performance w/ the game?
Falhawk 07-07-2005, 02:02 PM i turn all my settings down because I don't care.
runs great.
