Zxern 06-28-2005, 06:39 PM So one time.... many moons ago...
A new mappack was in beta and later that night there was to be a shoutcasted pickup with the new maps on a 5150 server. It took hours to d/l this damn thing because everyone and their mother wanted to try it out.
So I finally got the pack and installed it and started to look around the maps to see how they should be played in preperation for the nights events. I was between teams at the time and thus was tagless. When the pickup started I jumped in and grabbed a spot and started practicing a bit. Then, just before the pickup started I see 2 people kicked from the server and then me. All 3 of us had no tags....we we're kicked just because we had no tags and weren't deemed worthy to play in the pickup. I tried to pm people in their irc channel but got no responses....Finally after trying for 10 minutes I got in again and was immediately kicked again.
So I accessed about 15 T1s I had at my disposal and DOS'ed the pickup to the point that they had to move servers (to an SES server I believe) and then I joined there and played the rest of the evening.
:p
Wow thats just pathetic.

Good job being an immature little prick. That was the standard of practice for pickup games because they were quite popular. Unless someone on the server recognized your nick and vouched for you, you were usually kicked.
liquidh2o 06-28-2005, 06:45 PM If that makes you feel better about the site then don't let the door hit you, but its always been this way. Cyanide was wishing death on people's kids in year one at the same time Gon was making marquees of poop scroll across the screen. You take this shit way too seriously and could probably benefit from a reality check by leaving, but I have a feeling you're just in love with the sound of your typing.
Play any DAoC lately? hohohoho ;)
added the wink to emphasize LOL JOKES JUST KIDDING LOL
Flatscan 06-28-2005, 06:45 PM Fal you're way too humble.
I am relatively unknown here, as I played under many different nicks before I chose this one (and no it is not for the cloting brand), and I only had 28.8k until 2003 or 2004. I never really posted on the boards, only came here for some demos at times, and my first account was deleted. And I was too young to actually have a sense of commitment to a team, so I never really joined one to play competetively until after, when the bulk of the real competetion had left. Something I regret I missed, but oh well, it is just a computer game right? I guess the thing I regret the most is missing out on really getting to know all the characters from back then.
However, I still felt, and feel, a sense of community from tribes and TW and that is why I am still here.
Honestly, I think it is somewhat of a sad day when good community members leave, as we all know how few of them we have left. I have played on 5150 servers a LOT, and I never really had any problems, the few that I did have were my fault, and were easily straightened out with a trip to irc. Not that Vir is a fag, as i dont have much experience with him, so I won't pass judgegment on him until that time. However, it saddens me when I see Red and Adren leave because of the drama that ensued because of Vir.
Good luck to you guys of 5150 in the future, loved the soundpack.
Another one bites the dust.
Take care

Nomad 06-28-2005, 06:54 PM Does the fact I think this thread is 100 percent ridiculous mean I am growing up or something? j/k
What a fucking trainwreck of a thread.
triple 06-28-2005, 06:55 PM rofl

Blotter 06-28-2005, 06:57 PM i think this is just a contest to see who gets the longer thread between trd and vir

That's exactly what I think.
Why not just delete the link from favorites menu and never come back?
Why not send Rayn a pm?
uh. . ..uh. . . .uh. . .. .
Nomad 06-28-2005, 07:04 PM not 1 person defended 5150, after "all they did for the community"
Not 1 person asked 5150 members to stay.
Durak is a fucking idiot.
This thread is completely stupid.
Personally, I like that they gave somewhat of a warning of their departure, even though it was a bit dramatic. Plus, it brings out all the old vets :)
I don't care who you are, or who you think you are, but the members of 5150 have done a lot for this community.
... too bad its all worth a pile of shit now!
liquidh2o 06-28-2005, 07:25 PM Elitism and being way to serious.....
I've seen those two terms thrown around so many times it makes my head spin, but for the most part I see it anything but.
A common factor that every member of 5150 has is the desire to succeed, and having the drive to attain it. It can be in anything simple like internet gaming or something more important like the persons career, but that drive and will to succeed is there. Those of us who joined and became a part of the team didn't do so with the intention of being second best. When you're playing to be the best, you have to train and perform the part, no exceptions, and this model can be carried over to most anything else.
Yeah, it's just a game, and we treat it accordingly. We all still maintain our careers and personal lives outside of gaming, it just became a matter of finding the time and putting forth the effort to excel. And for the most part, what we do in our daily lives is largely based on our priorities. Not every second will be spent on that model, which is why we have past times and hobbies, and there's a model of priorities within those as well. What time one person spent pubbing to just dink around, one could be learning every which way to run a capping route, or master another position, it's all a matter of priorities. We still had/have our fun, but we were all of like mind on what needed to be done and how we would acheive it.
And I can't see how people will goad us for being "way to serious" when you have a thread with people up in arms on how the 5150 servers should be run, and how we have a reputation and image to maintain...
In all seriousness, (my personal feelings...), yeah we run/maintain the 5150 servers for the community to play on. Our intentions from the start were to run them w/ an iron fist to keep the competition at the highest level. At the same time we wanted to promote fairness and unbiased adminning. There's going to be times when you can't have it both ways, and ultimately there will be people who fall victim to this gray area. Some have the right of mind to come to us to try and resolve the issue (and it would seem a majority of the time a reasonable resolution is reached). Others will feel spurned and hold a grudge, some will simply never come back. As time goes by, those who enjoy the server will continue to play on it, and those who maintain that grudge become more vocal, and will be quickest to act when someone else speaks up. It's now at a point where people feel the need to chime in even if they've had no experience at all on the server, because it's the bandwagon thing to do. We tried to run the servers with the majority in mind, but it would seem the majority is anything but that now. It then becomes a matter of deciding when putting forth the time and effort to support those that truly want to play and enjoy the game is outweighed by those, who despite whatever effort we put forth, will continue to be unsatisfied (and try in what ways they know how to disrupt the experience for others).
Oh jesus here we go again.
