I didn't know that you played limit. Sorry. You never really said that in your thread... And no, I don't average $20 an hour, I only play live now, I got sick of online poker.

Oh, and you want a real comment? You would have played the hand the EXACT same way if you had the reverse cards (ie you had the ace high flush and he had the straight flush). It isn't like anything special happened here...

I'm not claiming to have played this hand like a poker genius, it's just something like this is so rare and it was so nice to be on the good end of it. That's only the second time in 100k+ hands that I've flopped a straight flush. First time was in a SnG and got zero action. As far as limit, should be kinda obvious by the "3-bet", "caps", and no dollar amounts.

i've only had 1 straight flush online, 2 irl though

EDIT: never been as lucky as to flop the son of a bitch though

Kinda hard to mis-play big pots with strong hands.

This was the only other time I flopped one. (Don't ask me why I was on a Prima site, this was years ago when I was stupid.) And that 120 chips in the pot was all I won. :(

I flopped one at the 15/30 against AA. The guy played it so soft though, barely won anything.

serious hand discussion. i am giving the cliff notes version. honestly, when i keep re-reading this hand log, i think i played poorly and got lucky and gave this guy a very bad beat. (i assume he had the nut straight in this...) but did i really play it that poorly or how could i have played it better?

.50/1.00 limit (i know i'm a pansy but i dont have bankroll)

Dealt to halekulani [Ts Th] (halekulani is me :) )
i call, the guy who goes to showdown with me raises to 1, i call. (there's like four ppl in this hand)

*** FLOP *** [9h 8h Tc]
i bet first, i get raised, 2 call, 1 fold, i call. [ maybe i should have re-raised here? worst situation i assumed he flopped a straight, but if he didn't, make him pay for the next card...i dunno. ]

*** TURN *** [9h 8h Tc] [Jc]
i bet, i get raised by the same guy, 1 call, 1 fold, i call.

see, i dont know what exactly i was thinking. i mean, it was most obvious he had the straight and maybe a flush draw. he raised in the beginning preflop..a/k? a/a? a/q? no clue. being in first position i should have checked...anyways, the odds are against me [ i think, i have a book on low limit poker but i still don't get the calculating pot odds thing, but anyways ] and i still call. i don't know why i bet...i was just hoping ppl would fold or something. i was pretty much just praying for the full house when i got re-raised, but is it a bad idea? i mean there's possibly 3 cards left of each except the 10.

*** RIVER *** [9h 8h Tc Jc] [9d]
i knew i won at this point [ i didn't have the nuts, for all i know he could have had pocket j, but it was just one of those feeligns], i bet, he raised, i reraised, he called and i won the pot.

There are two schools of thought on sets. The primary thought is to fast play it, as much as you can. I fall into the other school which primarily slowplays them. However, this is about as dangerous a flop as possible when hitting a set. So this is definitely a case for fastplaying and I would 3-bet the flop. But, as a caviat to that, if you are not in the position to give chasers bad odds (you're UTG and late position raises, 3-betting will make draws seriously pay, otherwise you just build the pot and give them odds), it may just be advantageous to check/raise the turn. That only works if a scare card doesn't hit the turn which it did in this case.

Now, if you had 3-bet the flop, it is unlikely you would have been able to 3-bet the river (which was definitely correct). Assuming your opponent was reasonably smart and realized you may have been protecting a set. Sets are 40% likely to turn into fullhouses or quads by the river though, so you always have that behind you and it is almost always correct to draw to that.
