Foolishness and game design

Alright, I keep seeing this same thread over and over:
"Tribes is dead! OMG, the next 4-5 years there will not be a good Tribes game! We should make a new game with skiing, jetpacks, and all of the exact same gameplay mechanics, but a new name!"

Seriously...what good will it do you?

1. New names have a whole lot of trouble breaking into the modern market. Franchises rule the day. Do you really think a re-hash of a FAIRLY popular 8 year old game is going to bring over millions of fans overnight and smash the popularity of CS, Unreal, and Battlefield?

2. Why do you try to come up with a NEW idea that has the similar effects on gameplay? Think about WHY you like jetpacks and skiing (The sense of mobility? The fact that combat is 100% different from any other FPS because of it? The speed? The skill involved?) and try to come up with something of your own design that has the same sort of effect.

3. Join a mod team. Nobody becomes an expert at anything overnight.

4. Don't listen to people with "I'm retarded" in their sigs.

5. Think about #4 before responding to it.

It will come out, they will bitch about how its different, no one will play and then they get all excited and play game designer all over again with all these "ideas".

That all depends on the quality of the game. T2 had alot of players, dispite not being readily accepted.
