I understand that when you come across a chest or coveted "thing" you should roll a /random 100. Ok, no problem...

So lately, I'm trying to get into as many instances as I can. I got into about 3 yesterday and on my last one, this guy got in my shit because I was rolling for an axe (something I didn't need as I am a mage). He basically told me that I shouldn't roll on it because I don't need it. Ok, makes sense...

Now this same fucker then tries to tell me NOT to roll on this badass staff that some dude was about to drop b/c he wanted it. All the while this guy is hooking shit up like crazy. I didn't receive a DAMN THING on any of my three instances I went on that day.

I sell a lot of shit at the AH and to be honest, wouldn't mind taking shit that I can't use simply to sell it. Ideally, this isn't cool to my fellow group-mates. Where is the happy medium? I am down with not rolling on shit I don't need but it seems as if I'm NEVER getting anything even if it does look good to me (as in has a stam and intellect buff).

wtf?

WEll it usually goes:
\
If you need it roll on it.
If everyone passes it goes to greed
YOu get one greed blue/purple, and after that you dont roll

BOE are free for alls, but if its an upgrade for someone you should pass on it.

I always check the item against what i'm wearing and what the group can wear. If it's mail, and we're just a bunch of rogues and a mage/priest....fuck that, i'm rolling. but if we have a tank, i pass.

most of the time, if i can use it, i'll roll, if not, i'll pass.

depends

if you can use it...and its a considerable upgrade...roll. if its not much of an upgrade and someone else can use it/wants to use it + its a big upgrade let em take it.

dont roll on shit you cant use/dont need until everyone else decides that they dont need/cant use b/c you're being a lootwhore and that pisses people off

take a look at who needs stuff most. obviously a sword with str and shit should goto a warrior first, rogue second and hunter third since they almost never melee

caster stat weapons goto casters...but if you have something like hypnotic blade that should really goto a shaman first since he'll actually be using the dps rather than just stats

All the groups I've gone with have had pretty much the same rules.

Roll on all BoE, but give to someone if it's an upgrade.
Pass on all BoP, then discuss who needs it, otherwise it's a cash roll.
Open the chest to see what's inside then roll accordingly.
I've only seen three epics drop, and those were in guild only raids. So it wasn't an issue, people who needed them got them.

I would never pass a roll on a BoP that I needed. That's just asking for a ninja loot.

By the way Wendel, where was this and what staff was it?

explain BoP and BoE plz...

It was VC in Hillsbad and I've no idea what staff it was. We ended up getting wiped b/c someone fucked up (not me) and I just res'd and went on with my bad self. Ppl I was playing with were douches anyway (not ONE of my sheeps lasted more than 5 seconds).

Our group (I group mostly with friends) likes to use round robin, with people asking/rolling for bind on pickup items. This way, if any of us needs to use something that drops, that person can just get it from the person who got the item.

I think the fairest system is master looter with a good master looter. You don't get the randomness of the round robin system, so everyone will get a share of the items (round robin items instead of round robin corpses), and the bind on pickup stuff will still be put to the most needy. Also with a good master looter, you can't ninja loot.

BoP= Bind on Pickup
BoE= Bind on Equip

The reason why you can always roll on BoE, even if you didn't need it, would be because you can always trade the item after the fight to whoever needs it. If no one needs it then it's yours to keep to either vendor it, disenchant it, or Auction House it (which I recommend).

Now BoP items are usually items that come from bosses in instances that are usually blue, and if you roll on it and don't need it then you can't trade it or Auction House it because it's soulbound to you. That's why you should always ask if anyone needs it before rolling or passing on BoP. If you need it, then definetly roll. If no one needed it and everyone passed then you type /roll 100 to decide who gets to vendor/disenchant it. Don't count on other people to pass, always roll if you need it.

wtf is BoE and BoP?

and the ones i've been on always roll first, then open the chest (rogues pick the lock for the person opening).

my advice is to level furiously so you can stop being in groups that fight over complete trash that they wont even be wearing for more than a couple days.
I pretty much sold every green item I have ever found using quest/boss drops only and I have always had plenty of gold.

Make money at the AH, dont lose it.

i roll on all BoE. BoP's I ask b4 rolling. Some rogue was also pissed & upset that I rolled & won the Charstone Dagger. (I'm a priest).

If you're not going to use it, everyone should roll.
Something that pisses me off: need before greed and how people somehow confused that with "want before greed"

It was funny when the game first came out and people would use group loot and just roll on whatever your class wears/uses. it was a pain to see all the warriors get the mail, rogues get the leather and casters get the cloth...

It doesn't make fucking sense, and when you get even higher, the issues i find have gotten less, especially considering people usually follow the loot rules (rr+1 need)

I've even recalled a time when a rogue bitched out my firend for rolling on a blue sword when he claimed he needed it only after we asked and started rolling on it. In the end, he won it... and guess what? It was at the auction house shortly after we parted.

i think at low levels, rolling on your class specific gear is more feasible, since you most likely won't have too many greens, and anything would be an upgrade. As it gets higher up, its retarded. 80% of the stuff that drops no one in the group would use, and will get disenchanted, vendored, or AH'd. I've also started the habit of checking people's equipped items to see if it really is an upgrade.

but luckily, every group i've been in since 30+ have all agreed on the rts rule for all BoE.

it's all mine bitches!

I think I'll just stick with not rolling if I can't use it...

use RR looting, anything else is pretty retarded

I forgot how retarded people can be with loot until I rolled an alt. To see level 24's fight over level 15 BoE items is hilarious. Simply because they are green or blue they think they're getting great items.

It's fun running BRS/Strat/Scholo. When it gets to the point where nobody needs a BoP item and we roll for the shard, I generally end up being the one to loot it and disenchant it. In pick-up groups, without fail, when I pick up the item to disenchant 1-3 people will start screaming ninja.
