Halfscan 03-25-2005, 10:15 PM So... with the whole of the community shouting a hearty "fuck you" to VUG, where exactly does this put SS:2845?
Granted, the project is largely fan created, but VUG still owns the thing... so aren't they they ones who will be controlling distribution, making the $$ (if there is any to be made), and controlling any updates that would be done to the game after its initial release?
Isn't ClanCore setting themselves up by stepping into IGA's shoes?

How so? The SS team has stated that once they have completed the game, they are required to turn it over to VUG. From there on it's VUG's game.

LouCypher 03-25-2005, 11:24 PM SS:2845 will never see the light of day. I hope you like screenshots because that's as close as it's going to get.

Oooh Trajan I think those are fighting words..
KnightMare 03-25-2005, 11:45 PM depends if VUG wants money for it or not.
BugsPray 03-25-2005, 11:53 PM SS:2845 went to TSE. T:V dying had nothing to do with it. As far as I know, VUG has no control over it (please correct me if I'm wrong) and ClanCore just asked permission to use the names and timeline.

No. This project is completely a labor of love for it's creators, but once finished it will be turned over to VU Games to distribute as they wish. This includes charging for it if they so desire.
LouCypher 03-26-2005, 12:02 AM It's nice that it's a "labor of love" but if VUG is going to deliver it I'm betting this baby will be stillborn.

According to previous posts by ClanCore (and the SS FAQ), when ClanCore is finished with the developement of the game, they have to hand it over to VUG. VUG will then be in charge on distribution ("how" to get the game out and "how much" to charge). I would assume this would also mean the ClanCore would find themselves in the same position as IGA regarding updating the game post-release (ie, cannot release anything without VUG's approval).

BugsPray 03-26-2005, 12:15 AM I stand corrected. In response: aww damnit.
Wulfen 03-26-2005, 12:37 AM Which is unfortunate. I was very excited to see SS2845 and how it was coming along, but if VU actually charges for it, sorry.
Devo_N 03-26-2005, 01:05 AM It's possible that some judicious name changes and reworked backstory could leave ClanCore with full control.
To be honest, I think ClanCore would be nuts to trade control of their project for some small amount of IP rights.
iceman21_23 03-26-2005, 01:06 AM lol this game is not going to be free... they want as much money as they can get.

I hope clan core is smart enought to change the name and timeline. VUG is a business. they will never give a away something that they can charge for. They will charge for it and 4-6 months later dump support for it. I personally would never let any company take something(let them call it thiers) after all the work is done. especially a company with the recent history of VUG. How can CC trust VUG, now? How can they work with a entity that just put a knife in a community and ripped off thousands of fellow tribes lovers.
Diotoir 03-26-2005, 01:50 AM I don't think VUG would be as quick to drop this game because, well... they aren't really paying for it. If the dev team wastes six months patching the game, what does VUG care, it's not their time and money being wasted.
Minion^ 03-26-2005, 01:52 AM Its comming out. I know 2 of the skinners on SS. Kush and Zero. At last i heard, it was still comming out (kush was compaining about doing skinng)

Keep in mind that IG was never told directly about the patch cancellation.
BFGanksta 03-26-2005, 02:46 AM But VUG aren't paying clancore for making SS. So for them to cancel distro is ridiculous. At the very least I'd expect to see a alpha and beta release from ClanCore. The gold version may never hit the market, because VUG might feel that selling it wouldn't be cost efficient. But I still think that we'll get some playable version of it.
