We knew months ago there wouldn't be a patch. Personally I was torn between the community deserving to know the truth and the trust that was placed in us.

Members of the community (not just 5150) knew ahead of time because of CLOSE ties with the Dev team (friends/acquaintances/lovers/etc). As in daily interaction (email, irc, phone, etc).
