He obviously wasn't able to help the game much (his voice wasn't that strong I guess). They probably brought him on to make the community think that we had someone working for our interests.

Now he probably can't come back to the community (or just chooses not to)

Sucks though that two tribes projects he was involved with (tr2, T:V) are both left unfinished.

and that he completely stopped posting here, even when russ and irriant were still posting here.

very strange

He's probably embarassed. Not to mention the lashing he would receive from the community.

honestly I don't think he'd get a lashing at all.

You all need to shut the fuck up. Bash VU all you want but IG was COMPLETELY cut out of the patch process (VU was having another team work on it if anyone was). Kinetic Poet spent a TON of time helping out all of us modders with TV and has done more to help the community then any other member of any staff.

So take a hike.

I wouldnt doubt that his career is as or more important to him than publically complaining about any mistakes that were made during the development of T:V. Thats the way game development is, the majority of companies out there (VUG especially) have their heads up their asses and you just need to do what you can and hope things come together. Im sure KP did all he could given his position.

Also, IG was a developer contracted by VUG to make the game. Its very likely they were pushed to release before the game was ready, really I would bet the majority of T:V's failure can be attributed to decisions made by people within VUG.

I have been very vocal on my displeasure with the performance of "our guy" in the IG team.

I have also had my share of run ins with Ant and crew here because I felt they released an unfinished game in the form of the MP side.

But I will say they did a great job on the SP. Yes...it was rather short, but the story and design were done pretty well. If for nothing else, I remember playing dozens of SP FPS games where some bad guy was tough to get to and I would think to myself "this would be way different if I had a jet pack". With T:V SP, I finally got to play that out. They designed great looking levels and cutscenes.

They just absolutely suck at MP. Thats what most of us thought KP was there for. I still have that whole recording that Col did in SF. KP talks about keeping the existing community happy.

He failed...and while I applaud his helping the modders out..wasn't the game, in its released form, supposed to be a modder's dream come true???

they fell way short.

So thx for the nice SP. Other than that...fuck VUG and IG

I'm not going to look for the post, but KP explained himself months ago and I agreed with him. As for staying away from here now. It is in his own best interest at this point. VUG still has IG by the bawls in the form of SWAT 4 and possible future contracts for other shit products.

Blaming IG for the game is like blaming a 2 year old for putting their hand on the stove when it's on. They didn't know any better, they didn't know Tribes. They did good for a game they had no prior knowledge of. That said, I still think it was a steaming pile of crap.

Haven't you heard about the partnership between Bioware and Irrational?

Looks to me like they are setting themselves up to end run their publishers. I know that Bioware was dissatisfied by their treatment at the hands of Atari and have been working to make Digital Distribution their main vector for future releases.

This can only be a good thing. More creative control for the dev houses and less $$s for the publishers.

Let the mice eat the fucking cats.

Soon enough we will be able to have decent games again. Slowly but surely.

read this: http://pc.ign.com/articles/534/534131p2.html

it's KP's dev diary from IGN. It contains this quote on the second page, nearing the end

Our team has really come together to create something I'm proud of. It might not be the exact game the mod-maker in me would've created, but as a professional accomplishment I'm very happy with it.

Within the context of the article, he's talking about the differences between being a mod-maker, and being a professional developer. To me, this quote says, "i am not happy with the game, but i think the team did the job it was hired to do".

I think KP is just as unhappy with T:V as anyone else, if not more so. I don't think placing blame on him is warranted.

I agree with you to some extent

but if we could go back and look at all the effort WE put in to helping. People offered advice to IG on how to make things like observer, server admin and even netcode to some extent WORK.

much of that was dismissed. I remember videocasting a beta pickup and Russ was tuned in, as was excal. In IRC, I was chatting with Russ and mentioned that the keybind issues of not being able to switch between flags right was frustrating. he said "yeah, we already know about that and it should be fixed by retail".

a keybind...how fucking hard is that????

So while I wont specificly blame KP for all the woes, it certainly makes you wonder why..if he WAS being an advocate of listening to the community, why the fuck wouldn't IG listen..if not to us, then HIM??????

IG screwed the pooch here...plain and simple...and since he is part of that team, he gets some collateral damage...sorry

MasterGnr, both IG and KP were at the tender mercies of Marweas and Thrax Panda when it came to the game design and final release. There is not much they can do when one of those two losers tell them things like "Don't fix/change that I want you to do this instead.".

When you have anal retentives like Marweas and Thrax Panda, who know absolutely nothing about game developement, in charge of things you get confusion and a product that is a total mess on release like T:V.

KP was another one of those sad marketing decisions to try and make Marweas and Thrax Panda look good to the Tribal War crowd just like the Tribes Council. It was all show and didn't really mean a damned thing in the end. The people here fell for it like a crack whore for $10 blow job.

Bullshit...

All through beta, I was told directly by Thrax(ICQ), to take ALL of my concerns to KP, as he's the bitch in charge...

IG should have shipped a complete game. Patch may have been VUGs fault, but it wasn't fixing any of the bugs that needed fixed anyway!

Of course (are you really that gullible?)...

KP was like the Tribes Council. Just for show and to take the hit if things didn't go right. He was basically the sacraficial lamb. If you think KP was in charge then you need to stop taking so many drugs. :D Thrax knew what he was doing in this regard.

Hire someone from the community and then tell anyone that bugs you to bug KP so they stop bothering you.

He wasn't on my ICQ list because I wanted him there, dipshit.
