set the router to only allow certain MAC addresses and only add yours. simple fix if he doesnt know much, or enable wep

It sounds like you've never even attempted to configure your wireless router. Even the manual highly recommends it and discusses security issues.

WPA with the AES protocol is MUCH better than WEP(also WEP can be cracked if monitored long enough by whomever wants in)
also to be more secure, use a MAC filter

i think netgears are default at 192.168.0.1 , so type that in your browser
i think default name is admin , pw = password or 1234
then look around in there for wireless ****. you can enable a WEP really easily, and whatever key you use, write it down and give it to your roommate so he can access it on his wireless.
