No, seriously....

Assuming I get scheduling worked out with Zio (check your forum, Zio), there will be a closed beta for the map this weekend (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday).

In the meantime, here are some screenshots:

He took his time. People complained and he took his time. IG could learn from him. ;)

It might be the rendering mode he was in (Portal/Zone?) that made the sky show all bluish.

BTW, count me in! Maybe my friend is up for it to, he just got the game. I'm so excited, my typical Halo junkie friend, got T:V... wow.

damn...looking good mate!

Just dont make it TOO good or were gonna be stuck with "kata_only" servers once again =)

edit:
A question, is the map heavy on your system? ATM im playing at a close to minimum spec and considering this map will be much bigger then those in the retail, i guess im in for a choppy ride.

Thank God you're not dead. I thought maybe one of the Kata haters got your address.

Looks like another dead-on translation.

Looking good.

That is just one of the default skyboxes, but the texture got sheared while I was messing with other things (so it looks solid blue). I have already created my sky in Terragen, but haven't put it in the map yet (gotta save some surprises for the release).

I always performance tune my maps. So far its runs faster on my machine than the retail maps (Radeon 9600 pro). The file may be large, but in game it will be as smooth as (or smoother than) other maps.

After looking at those screens for a while, I find myself asking the question, if this map is going to be this close to the original, why not just play T2?

Wonder has done an astonishing job replicating the original shapes, but everything seems just a little strange. From the screens, the outdoor mountains also appear to just feel different than what I remember too.

I was hoping that the map would look better than the original did like WB's Beggars re-make (better/moodier lighting) but these screens don't look like an improvement.

After thinking about it for a while, I don't think this map will be the same at all in T:V. There are so many factors running through my head thinking about how this map will play in comparison to T2. I won't go into them now though.

And Wonder I know exactly what you did too. You made as perfect of a remake to the original as possible. I was a bit shocked to see the T2 vehicle pad I love so much with those T:V vehicle spawn bays pasted on it. :(

I guess the point of this post is to say, why not just play T2?

No improvement in graphics, no Shrike, no Shrike capping, no automated turrets, no bots, no satchle charge, no cloak pack.

I guess we'll find out soon enough though.

Thanx again Wonder!

Zio,
It does look much better when you are actually playing it, those stills seem to lose a little. Anyway the texturing is much nicer with the normal mapping, and the lighting is moodier (at least I thought it was). I loved T2 as I loved T1, but the technology behind them is getting old. If you actually load up Kata in T2 and compare it to this, you will see the improvement. T2 lighting was very drab and washed out, whereas this is more contrasty (if that is a word). Also I have not finished texturing the terrain to my satisfaction - which may be why the mountains look odd.

Once the terrain texturing is complete, and the new sky is in - hopefully you will think it is a graphical improvement. Yes - it WILL NOT play like T2. In fact I should put that disclaimer on the loading screen. But if after playing it, you would rather play the T2 version - then let me know what server and I will gladly join you :)

Yeah, I am reacting to these screenshots and I am reacting to the map not looking better than the original. That's the main reason I thought you were doing these re-makes to give the old maps a graphical improvement like in Beggars. The map was the same but it just looked much nicer.

I'll hold back my remarks until I play the map first hand. It's not fair to react to screens alone. And I'll take your word for the improvement till I see it first hand as well.

Just a quick suggestion before you release the map this weekend, you may want to reduce the ambient light a touch. I feel you are losing some of your moodieness because everything looks so bright. In all the screenshots, all the lights look VERY bright and there dosen't seem to be much shadow, but again, I could be wrong just looking at these screens.
