pocketgamer 02-27-2005, 07:38 PM PanamaJack']T2C was an AMAZING failure unless you consider a drop from 1500 players at primetime to around 500 players at primetime around 2-3 months after T2C was released a success. The rate of drop in players online after T2C was released was one of the FASTEST drops in players counts after ANY T2 patch. Even the patch that had to be rolled back never caused anywhere close to that percentage or speed of drop in player counts.
PJ .. . . Do you read the things that you type?
Bringing numbers into this is meaningless as there are several things that could have caused that decline, and plus you need sources to back those numbers up.
The fact of the matter is that T2 and T2C are closer to T1 then T:V could ever be with any reasonable level of modding. I think there are very few people who have played T2C and T1 that don't think T2C is a great sequel, and I know that there are a lot of people who have played T1,T2, T2C, that feel T:V should have never been made if it was destined to be what it is.
NeoLotus 02-28-2005, 01:18 AM second of all, Face makes a point. Maybe hes showing that hes concerned enough to post what he did to make us realize that this is going on. Maybe he is a valued community member who doesn't like to see this sort of thing happen.
yeah hes a jolly good fellow
Rooster128 02-28-2005, 06:47 AM NeoLotus, me, and Face, and Zod, and Adept. Oh yeah. We're the future of tribes. I can see it! :-D

And that has something to do with the gameplay,
and not the fact that the mod was popular enough to split the community?
There's been made many shitty mods for T2 and if this mod was shitty,
why didnt people just keep on playing Base then?
Was this mod so special that people tried it, thought it was shit and quit the game?
Stilgar 02-28-2005, 12:49 PM zio is correct for the most part
Why would you say that?
Most of the T1/T2 "fanboys" I know played the TV beta to death.
And it was only after being "cut loose" and patchless that the complaints from "vets" began.

You are talking to a very SMALL, CLOSED group of people. When Classic came out and the majority of servers that most people played on changed from Base/Base++ to Classic there were MASS defections from the game. Alot of people just stopped playing because they couldn't find a decent Base/Base++ server to play on anymore. Most of the good, stable servers installed Classic. The player counts at primetime dropped almost 2/3 in around 2 months after classic came out. Classic was supposed revive T2 and bring in a whole new group of players because it was included in a Sales Rerelease of T2. It tanked as bad as T:V tanked. Similar basic ideas in speeding up gameplay with similar results.
If you only talk to the few hardcore people who REMAINED you get a very skewed version. It's the mass defections you need to have talked with as well to get a balanced perspective. The people who hated classic were far more numerous than the people who liked it.

I'm sure most people who started with T2 preffered T2. T2C was not built for them, it was built for people who played T1. T1 players who gave T2C a shot, majority of them liked it a lot. . .. or atleast better then T2.
pocketgamer 02-28-2005, 06:24 PM The timing of the loss of people could be due to a million things. Maybe a popular game comming out that stole most of that fanbase. We don't know, so stop using it as a direct reason why Classic sucks, because it doesn't.
[AKA]PanamaJack 02-28-2005, 07:22 PM Let's see T2C was released with the patch, T2 was re-released in retail for $9.95, most populated servers installed the patch with Classic Enabled, until that time you could always see around 1500 people online at primetime other games being released over the previous 18 months didn't make any impact on primetime player counts, around 2 months after the T2 Re-Release and the Classic Patch T2 player counts are around 500 players at primetime. These counts don't include bots.
In basically 2 months after the classic patch the player counts drop like a rock and they had remained steady for over a year and during other game releases. Trying to blame the drop on something else is just trying to shift blame. :p Classic made a small group happy but pissed off far more players.

OK. I will accept that you're right. OK. So what you're saying is that the people who only played T2 were not smart enough to find a non T2C server? I find that hard to believe. Not all servers switched, just the teams that had come from T1 probably made the switch.
[AKA]PanamaJack 02-28-2005, 07:36 PM Remember, people are lazy. :) Most people don't want to be required to search for a decent server that is playing what they like. If they can't find it easily they go somewhere else. This is especially true if a server they really liked changed to a gametype they didn't like. Instead of playing the new gametype they would look for another server that had a good ping and no lag with their gametype. It was damned HARD to find a Base server that was decent when Classic came out.
Plus, certain people spread the lie that Base++ wouldn't work with the patch and that Classic was really the updated Base++ so the Base++ servers didn't upgrade to the updated Base++ and just installed the patch with Classic enabled. You couldn't find a single Base++ server out there that was running the patch.
Zeonism 02-28-2005, 07:55 PM Again, people tried classic, thought it was shit and stopped playing the game entirely?
Come on..
If classic was the failure you want it to be, i'm sure people would've gone back to base and forget about classic.
Also, i doubt admins would keep classic installed if the majority of the community disliked the mod.
If i remember correctly these where released close to the T2C/patch release;
Unreal tournament 2003
Battlefield 1942
MoH : Spearhead
