NeoLotus 02-26-2005, 07:54 PM agreed, the game isnt new or revolutionary...Not many games are today, though.
And this game is very diffrent from many of the most popular games today, so in a way its a breath of fresh air, which is why I enjoy it so much. (and ive always been a sucker for CTF).
I admit I stopped playing the demo after a while and it took some time before i bought the retail, but this was mainly because of the maps. Now i got a fresh set of maps, and alot more to download, so im playing it alot atm.
For me, this will go down in history as one of the most underrated games ever.
[AKA]PanamaJack 02-26-2005, 08:12 PM So tell us,'O wizened one. What FPS should we play? Tell us what is not boring.
For you I would suggest something with cute, fuzzy BUNNIES.
[AKA]PanamaJack 02-26-2005, 08:20 PM I'm guessing he would say Ut2k4. Just a guess. So much you can do in that game, its unbelievable.
I skipped around alot during my unreal days, but I ended basically playing Invasion with the RPG mod, lowgrav instagib 4xJump TB enabled CTF, and Bombing Run.
Of course no one cares, and no one but PJ will understand what I'm talking about. :)
Personally for me it would be UT2004 right now. UT99 and UT2003 were two that I hated. They made some great changes to the game for UT2004 that removed most of the problems I had with the previous versions. Plus the number of mutators out there is phenominal and that ads a huge amount of variety to the game.
Plus the server admins are NOT AFRAID to add a ton of maps and even various mutators to their servers. Tribes server admins seem so damned scared to add anything new to the game and the die hard players are deathly AFRAID of play maps they are not familier with. I can join a UT server that has 20+ players and end up having it send me the map being played and maybe 30 meg of textures, models and mutators before I can play. The UT players don't seem to be afraid of all that content being sent to them.
Other than UT2004 there isn't an FPS game out there that I am interested in as they are all basically the same basic game at their core.
WeRe-|WoLf|- 02-26-2005, 11:25 PM I think it has a bit less to do with the expectations of series fans than of the overall character of our culture. As Alexis de Tocqueville more or less predicted ("Democracy in America") we're in this spiral where the lowest common denominator prevails most of the time :(

Damn I know what you mean, we would load up a new map and I would only get to play through half the map, half the time was spent downloading. When I got in however, the score always turned tables... bwhahaha!
Tribes is defiantly a game all its own. In others games, a mod, such as a Halo mod, would work. In tribes, it wouldnt. You got jets, skis, and weapons that handle differently. People are scared of mutators for tribes because it changes a lot of these things, and it takes a shitload of time to learn the 'timing' of a weapon.
I played Ut2k4 yesterday, first time in ages. For the first time in a looooooong time I actually started shaking and getting a temperature. Defiantly signs of the twitch aspect. With tribes its almost the complete opposite. In Ut2k4 ammunition can be wasted, you just gotta be persistant and accurate as possible at the speed in which your fighting. Tribes, shots are timed, they count, and you have more of a leeway in time to do things.
You know what... everyone bickers about games on forumboards. I seriously like all the games they complain about, alot. Just noticed this right now. I guess its just me, but I just can't see how people can get so fustrated with games, ecspecially awesomes ones (at least to me) that we have coming out these days.
?B-MAN 02-27-2005, 02:45 AM T:V, no matter if you see it as Tribes or something totally diffrent, is a great game. Much better then the other arcade shooters played today. Painkiller is on the big march forward, and i fail to see how this is possible. It got NOTHING even remotely original, and just plain sucks.
UT is hugely popular and i can see why, it is a good game, but not nrealy as clean and interesting as T:V.
This game is absolutely great and deserves to be played, yet people doesnt. It got wonderful reviews everywhere, and its allready lowpriced. WTF are people doing?
They suck!
its a nice game for what it is. But TV is not a Tribes sequel.

Hehe... something just occured to me.
Don't take this as a slam, but can you please define "Tribes sequel"?
Remember, disregarding T:V, there are exactly 2 games in the series (this is where I warn you NOT to mention the PS 2 knock off) and those 2 games are radically different in the eyes of the community.
How can you say another radically different game based on the same core mechanics is not a "Tribes sequel"?

Not having an impenetrable wall 100 meters behind the flags would be nice for a first step.
NeutralX2 02-27-2005, 11:48 AM So tell us,'O wizened one. What FPS should we play? Tell us what is not boring. Since you have burned any chance of ever developing, marketing, inventing, participating, evolving, advising or even helping in any game what so ever, we cannot expect you to come up with anything worthy of installing on a hard drive. Your worthless drivel is what is boring.
I am realy starting to like Aesop. :)

First off, ofcourse it's not a Tribes sequal, but it's also not a Tribes prequal.
Tribes 1 and 2 are not that different. Tribes 2C is probably the best sequal to a game I've ever played, and most people who have played T1 and T2C will agree on that. T2C was nothing too hard to make on the existing Tribes 2 game. It really just came down to little tweaks of things.
Now if you tried to make T:V Classic, it would be easier to start with a different game/engine and then go back and add in all the player models, weapons and vehicles of T:V. That tells me that T:V is nothing like T1 or T2.
If you honestly believe that T1 and T2 are nearly as T:V and T1/T2, then you're on drugs and have not played all 3 games.
Aesop-The evil one 02-27-2005, 01:15 PM Your on crack. Each one of these games is very different from each other. T2 was not T1 with better graphics, just as T:V was not T2 with better graphics. This is the worst series of "sequels" ever to grace gaming. HL2 was an excellent sequel. DOOM had excellent sequels, (with the exception of DOOM3) (imo). COD, CS, BF, RvS, and Unreal are also games where the "I wish" lists are very long. Hell, I am still waiting for a Tribes 1 sequel to be released. I bought T2 on release day. To say I was disappointed that same day is a horrible understatement. But I played the crap out of it. Same with T:V. I play T:V more than any other title I own.
So.....I agree with you. T2 and T:V are poor sequels to T1. But T:V beats the crap out of any other fps out there.
F [a] C E 02-27-2005, 01:23 PM there's no person or thing to blame. there's no single concrete reason why t:v has more or less failed. the tribes franchise has (and has had) nowhere to go. its only been waiting for its shelf-life to expire.
sucks for sure, but not much to be done about it, so please stop making these fucking threads
Aesop-The evil one 02-27-2005, 01:37 PM LOL!
pocketgamer 02-27-2005, 02:18 PM T2C is an amazing sequal. It was a fully realized vision of Tribes 1. There are only a few things to complain about, but again, with all sequals, some of the origional stuff you like, doesn't make it into the sequal, but they are very minor things at best. T:V took a hatchet to Tribes and ended up using the ear off the whole body of Tribes, making the rest their own vision of how Tribes should be. They goofed.
Aesop-The evil one 02-27-2005, 03:13 PM T2C is a MOD of T2, not a sequel. The sequel to T1 was crap, so T2C was developed.
T1 maps were converted to T2, T1 maps are also hammered out for T:V.
T2C is no more a sequel to T1 than T:V is to T2.

aaaw, isnt that cute
[AKA]PanamaJack 02-27-2005, 04:33 PM T2C is an amazing sequal.
T2C was an AMAZING failure unless you consider a drop from 1500 players at primetime to around 500 players at primetime around 2-3 months after T2C was released a success. The rate of drop in players online after T2C was released was one of the FASTEST drops in players counts after ANY T2 patch. Even the patch that had to be rolled back never caused anywhere close to that percentage or speed of drop in player counts.

almost as cute as the same thread being made over, and over, and over, and over, and over... and over.

see, isn't repetition awesome? (and over!)
i'm sure you thought what you had to say was clever and original and that it direly needed to be heard. that's not the problem. the problem is that it wasn't and didn't, and i'm fucking tired of members reposting identical threads on a daily basis because they are too stupid and/or lazy to realise that they're doing so.

You really showed me there, didnt you? Well grease me up, im ready
:sex:
If your tired of reading the same topics over and over again, why the fuck do you read them? Im not forcing you. And why do you even posted answers here, spending more of your time in this thread?
Maybe you thought that you where clever and original, and that i needed to hear this...You wasnt, I didnt. Go hassle all the "where is the patch" people instead.
Rooster128 02-27-2005, 06:36 PM First of all, T2C was awesome. :) Believe what you want. To me that was pizza. Mmmmmmmmmm...
second of all, Face makes a point. Maybe hes showing that hes concerned enough to post what he did to make us realize that this is going on. Maybe he is a valued community member who doesn't like to see this sort of thing happen.
