So you're building a Tribes game from scratch...

Say all the features from past games are ripped from your hands and memories. You aren't allowed to even mention "disk" or "repair pack" or "schlance" or any other item or utility or such from any Tribes game. If given the option of creating the first Tribes game, what would it be like? You only have one task: make a team-based multiplayer game about infantry that have jetpacks that allow them to reach high areas and potentially allow them to avoid weapons fire. No preconceived notions about skiing or weapons or armor classes or disk jumping or -anything-.

So you have to make a Tribes game without any of the common associations found in Tribes - you're building a Tribes game from scratch: what do you do, and what does your game play like?

I expect mass confusion.

I'm not sure it would've occurred to me immediately that a jetpack could only operate via limited bursts. My game would've sucked.

I would probably come up with the disc launcher while i was eating pizza.

I would make it blatantly easy to mod and let it take care of itself. :D

it would be the greatest game ever and would sell billions of copies.

I think it would be called Tribes: Vengeance

The name "Tribes" sounds like some gay RTS game. If I had to put a type of game to the name, that's what it would be.

well.. first of all i would research as much as i could into starseige.. so that i knew what i was talking about. then i would probably make a game that only had C&H & D&D. if i had thought to add CTF (and my game was all about being slow moving) i wouldnt require the flag to be brought all the way back to the home flag. (that or the flags would not auto return). and i'd up the health(armor) so that 2 shots wouldnt kill you (if your 'run' is a walk)

I would probably have vehicles on some levels (despite the fact i dont like them in tribes) but it would either be everyone was able to get into a vehicle/mech.. or noone was (not here are 2 vehicles that can crush all people not in one)

oh... and every one would be a hawt female .. with a nice sexy ass to look at in 3rd person mode.

I would have had a strong defense considering the jetpacks and their potential use on offense.

Aside from that, I would have made most maps indoor maps b/c of my limited intellect.

I'd just make PlanetSide with jetpacks. :-P

I would not have thought of inv stations, I guess you would pick up stuff from the dead. Or items would stupidly hang in mid air, or be strewn about carelessly.

The skins would definatly look similar to RVS, CS, Halo, Unreal, etc. Not robots. Robots look stupid.

I don't think I would have thought of having vehicles at all. Jet packs are fast enough. They would just run out of fuel until you get more, I would not have thought of rechargeable packs

I know for sure there would be a "M" rating due to the blood and gore.

There is no way I would call a game "Tribes". I love to play it, but the name sucks.

Space battles, many chaingun-like assault rifles that fire bolts of supressed gas, buggy vehicles. Sci-fi missile and melee weapons and dodging manuveurs.

Might turn into a Gundam game. Bwhahaha.

If the thought ever came to me, skiing and jetting abilities would probably be part of a loadout you could choose at the expense of some other carryable asset.

Skiing doesn't exist.

Anyway, my first inclination would be to make the game indoors primarily, with a lot of tiered, open environments since you would want your jetpack to get a lot of use. The idea of this all occuring outside would seem fairly silly, unless the terrain was really fluctuating and had a lot of steep slopes and caverns.

Weapons would have to be either instant-hit with low power and high spread or slow and very powerful. I probably would have wanted a means of latching onto a surface, either being able to grab walls and ceilings or being able to slow down next to them - something to modify movement while suspended in the air.

Your vision is starting to sound a lot like Descent3
http://www.descent3.com/html/d3_screen_shots.html

That is, if they have tractor beams ;)

The Descent and the Tribes franchise; two of the best FPS games ever made. Descent 3 kinda seeped away from the oldschool play of Descent 1 and 2 though, that of which I didn't like that much. Oh, and look, people are saying the same thing out T:V, the 3rd game in the franchise. Is it that with things that develop into 3 parts, the third one always sucks? Har DE har HAR! Descent 3, T:V, Return of the Jedi (with the stupid ewoks, wakka wakka wakka).

Alright nevermind I said anything.

But yeah, Descent was awesome. We def. need to see a spreadfire cannon in tribes one day. :)

id probably just make it similar to armored core and let people choose from hundreds of different parts--for game mode, probably would be team deathmatch or common deathmatch variant --hold the thing, king of the hill, ctf, etc

yes, even Extreme G in the racing world had a horrible horrible 3rd game, however XGRA, the fourth game is way way better, its actually fun to play :o

i only hope thats the trend with the 4th tribes game(if there ever is one)
