KnightMare 03-04-2005, 10:54 AM Shocklance is a good example of Thrax asserting his opinion was right. Everyone else who supported keeping the SL was instantly flamed by him as a n00b, and written off as a case of it being a hitscan weapon (easily corrected if you're not a lazy programmer) and that a light shouldn't be able to kill a heavy in one hit. I'll argue neither side of that old argument here. [/start flamage now/] yeah so he adds like 4 other 1 shot 1 kill weapons that are easier to use. Thrax might be an alright sorta guy (I have had a chance to yap with him on IRC) and it was mostly his doing that another Tribes game was released at all... BUT, I don't think he had any business being in the roll he was placed in. Too many bad desisions stem directly from him... from dropping features (like the command map's functionality to the shocklance) to using TW as the main contact point between the devs and the community. As American Joe likes to gloat, these were simply bad calls. He took the opportunity to make "his Tribes" instead of working to forward Tribes as a whole. While I still enjoy T:V, I'm becoming more and more sympathetic to the haters. Oh well... I think I'll go find a game. Devo_N 03-04-2005, 04:35 PM It's not really clear how useful the lance would be against 150+ mph heavies and short-fuse mortars, anyway. Actually Bit, thats something that bothered me too, cuz early on Thrax would say things like "I dont think "X" should be in the game" And I always wanted to ask him how the hell HIS sole opinion mattered? That and he asked the "pro" players and they put up polls and made big spiels about how this game was going to be the ultimate game for competition (thus raising the argument we spent a few pages on a while ago). And I kept asking myself "and where does the FUN factor come in here?" *sigh* So many boneheaded decisions... And I kept asking myself "and where does the FUN factor come in here?" ... What I am curious about is who these "Pro's" are that influenced the opinions and directions of TV? I can understand some of their opinions about wanting to make sure the speed was back, but they took their approach too far on one extreme. T2 base took the quick competition play away from Tribes and that sucked, but TV went the other direction and in a bad attempt to put back the competiton and speed, they removed all the fun strategic elements and large war like gameplay from the game which was fun on pubs with a lot of players and others that played competition in that manner of style. To completely build this game soley around competition play, and I say old school T1 vet competiton play was a bit foolish. A good Tribes sequel should have been a full robust Tribes game with all the elements (command map, deployables, good balanced vehicles) with the speed between T1 base and T2 classic, real Tribes skiing and carving versus literally skiing, A scale between T1 and T2 and the engine should be able to support fully immersive maps. With this mix, If you want to play competiton the speed is there. T1, T2C vets can play their way and everyone else can play their large strategic game. It can be combined, T2 classic proved that. After playing TV endlessly, T1 again and T2 base, classic etc and doing lots of comparisons. In my opinion T2 classic is now the best Tribes game for those that like strategic and fast Tribes gameplay. Faaaaaast straaaaaaategic T2 claaaaassic. Oh, yes. ?B-MAN 03-05-2005, 05:03 AM I'd agree with that - except the fact you feel like you're playing on a hockey rink in slippers. I think you're thinking of version 2 not classic ?B-MAN 03-05-2005, 05:18 AM OK. Now find a dictionary and compare "tactics" and "strategy". Faaaaaast straaaaaaategic T2 claaaaassic. Oh, yes. strategic: the art of devising or employing plans toward a goal. tactics: The military science that deals with securing objectives set by strategy, especially the technique of deploying and directing troops, ships, and aircraft in effective maneuvers against an enemy. Tactics are the result of strategy. Strategy utilizes tactics =) KnightMare 03-05-2005, 08:46 AM B-Man, this game wasn't built for competition play at all. if it didnt have the overpowered turrets and vehicles it would be very competition friendly because matches and scrims are very fun in tv and always has been. | ||
