Wolfchylde 03-01-2005, 05:00 PM To who? The 50 people on TWL?
Competition features are in no way required to sell a game. Bugs or lack of patches did little to nothing to thwart the success of T:V.
Welllllll.... Id agree EXCEPT that when the game first started up, in those days when you had 600 ppl playing on a regular basis, the inability to kick TKers and griefers was a HUGE turnoff to a lot of new players (myself included). So a fully functioning admin system would have been very useful early on.
americanjoe 03-01-2005, 05:15 PM Beta dedicated server.
Admin functions or lack thereof.
Demo recording/playback or lack thereof.
Tournament mode.
Sorry PJ but you're wrong. There's plenty of bugs that aren't balance related and they are very glaring.
i would call them left out features or incomplete features, not "bugs" for say .. i think he was referring to bugs like ... getting stuck in a object, dropping from the game, freezing up ... things like that ...
dedicated server was a decision mistake or a oversight on the release candidate
admin functions are last on devs list to implement and they probably thought the game would have been patched by now ( thinking it would have sold better to warrant a patch ) and those features would have been solved
same with demos and tourney mode ...
TheRoDent 03-01-2005, 07:07 PM IT IS MARCH ALREADY. TOPIC DEAD. THREAD OVER. PLEASE LOCK. KTHX

Bleh, even still, that wouldn't keep people from playing the game. If it was fun and awesome, they'd disconnect and join another server. There's plenty of games that don't have or didn't get voting, recordings, etc, etc early on and it didn't hamper success.
If the game is FUN, EXCITING, KICK ASS, people will play. Regardless of minor issues such as voting. Recall, the majority of players can care less about admin/competition features, they are just looking to have some fun. If they don't find it, they don't come back.

I beg to differ, sir. There are plenty of reasons to yell.

oh, you mean in this thread?
He didn't lose his job, though, he just didn't want to re-locate.
Just because they didn't say "Thrax, you're fired," doesn't mean he wasn't fired.
VUG: Thrax, if you want to keep your job, you have to move to LA.
Thrax: I don't want to move to LA. I hate LA. My kids go to school and have friends here. I own a house here. My wife and I have all our friends here.
VUG: Take it or leave it. Don't let the door hit you on the ass.
That's life in corporate America. They fired him all right, and did it in a backhanded way. Every company that presents this kind of "option" to its employees knows damn well that many/most employees with families won't just up and move to keep their jobs. It isn't worth it in the Real World.
The reason I find it so ironic is because of Thrax's long time involvement with the series. To say he wouldn't / doesn't care about the Tribes franchise just seems silly...
I'm sure Thrax cares plenty about the "franchise", whatever that means now that no-one plays any of the games and every member of the "community" hates one or more of the series.
But I'm also pretty sure that Thrax cares about his real life a LOT more.

They were closing that specific office, it had nothing to do with Thrax personally, asshole.

Please read the fucking thread before you respond to a post half-way through cellulite-asshead.
VUG moderater is as pissed as we are even:
VUG has a 90 day return policy, so you can always send the game back if you do not agree with the terms of the license agreement.
VUG is under no legal obligation to provide a patch, regardless of what may have been posted on this or any other forum. Morally obligated? You can make a compelling case for that, but legally? No. And please don't misinterpret my comments as being pro-VUG or anything. After weeks of no answers despite repeated requests, I have no problem at all in saying the situation stinks. If they wish to remove me as a moderator for saying so, they are certainly within their right to do so.
[AKA]PanamaJack 03-02-2005, 10:55 PM If that was Creole Ned he should have removed himself some time ago. :) I mean he had his nose so far up the VUG butt he couldn't smell anything but poop.

Agreed. *nods vigorously* I played T2 daily for nearly 2 years despite the TKers the UEs the soupy physics and the schizo community features (which I STILL miss). So you are right about that for certain :)
Still, I wonder if T:V will EVER get those things fixed?
