?B-MAN 02-25-2005, 10:01 PM More than likely the patch or any news of the patch will come around the same time that SWAT 4 is released. Its pretty obvious where VU stands with TV. Theres really no point anymore to keep asking for the patch or news about it.
Krytoss 02-25-2005, 11:05 PM Its been what, 2 weeks now? Fuck em. Uninstalled the other night, reinstalled T2. Fired it up and was having more fun than I ever had playing T:V. I don't know whats so fucking hard about making a simple announcement, and making it within a timeline that you've set for yourself. In fact, I know that there's nothing hard about it, so refer to the first 2 words of my second sentence.
Random150 02-25-2005, 11:49 PM Mods?
Use search, there are several mods
Wulfen 02-25-2005, 11:55 PM I think he was answering a question. :)
americanjoe 02-26-2005, 01:39 AM It's almost April and still no .. wait .. did I jump the gun here?
NeoLotus 02-26-2005, 02:59 AM Sad though, TV, not a tribes game maybe, but still as a game it outshines just about anything that people play today. And yet it gets no recognition.
I mean...People play that awful painkiller. They even play Enemy Territory Fortress which sucks so much it hurts. And here u have TV, goodlooking, sweetass gameplay and requires skill aswell as teamplayt to master. And no1 plays it =(
aCynicalPie 02-26-2005, 03:21 AM They had several chances to fix bugs; even bugs that existed way back in the betas, that, surprisingly, still exist.
I still get the speed hack protection bug every now and then.
And remember that "die at the inventory bug" we used to have?
Watch carefully, and you'll see that all they did was give you one of those temporary spawn shields while you switched armors.
Barbarian 02-26-2005, 07:42 AM It's not coming. I doubt that the game has even broken even.
Seymour Blood 02-26-2005, 10:26 PM VUG's silence is just as bad as them blatantly lieing to our faces. Any company with any clout or proper PR would have kept their cliental aware of what was going on either good or bad.
Why they never have I will never know, but as was said before it's just as easy for me not to purchase hmm say SWAT 4 or any other future VUG products because I haven't been shown there will be any support.
Until I see the support that was promised I'll kindly keep my money with different publishers/developers.

Same here, that pretty much says it. I would say its because the conditions in which T:V was released; preceeding two basically 'undeground' games, during the time that a lot of hype games came out, and perhaps a tad too early. Tribes who have been used to having things a certain way since 1999 are now too picky to deal with any changes T:V brought about. and many fell back on the fact that its using the unreal engine, calling it 'UT with jetpacks'.
if you've ever played UT with such a spirit that I once had, you'd know that that is not true at all. UT makes your eyes quiver, your hands shake, your temperature to raise; defiantally a twitch game. T:V is not like this at all, no matter how 'fast-paced' you say it is, Tribes has never been a twitch game. Its a game in which your shots matter so you gotta do them right, in my eyes.
Wolfchylde 02-27-2005, 01:11 AM Okay so its pretty, I can handle pretty.
I like the MOVEMENT physics (weapon physics need WORK)
but the teamplay element? What teamplay element? Aside from actual Tournament play or actual TEAM play (neither of which the game has built in), everything else is a free for all, and all people do is play stupid CTF all day. I mean the ONE gametype I like (Fuel) is totally ignored (the one really GOOD idea they brought to the table).
No 1 plays it because between the cheats, the wonky netcode and the rampant bugs, the FUN of the game has been all but totally stripped out. I actually PREFER PLAYING THE SP GAME cuz at least THAT, with the scripted super easy to beat bots at least has some decent mapping ideas, and it is more "tribesy" than the MP game.
What's more, Tribes ruined most other fps games for me. I actually LOVE the jetpacking, the freedom of movement in the little box they gave you... I cant play ANY game without wanting to slide down the next hill I come across (I do it instinctively in WoW  ) but Im just so "meh" about the actual MP gameplay in T:V  There's nothing to be done about it really *sigh*

Oh please, T:V is a twitch game compared to anything else in the franchise. Its got the confined feeling UT has.
I could adapt to a LOT of things they did, the weapons dont annoy me (the grappler is annoying tho), the vehicles all SUCK, for varying reasons, but they purposely stripped away the flexibility in order to make the game more "accessible" and in doing so they really accomplished neither goal. The inv system is such a giant leap backwards its laughable, the respawn system is an unnecessary "feature" that really doesnt ADD to the game so much as it pulls you OUT of the game. The chat system, the zoom functions, while all moddable are just cumbersome... The list goes on and on.
You know, maybe I CANT adapt to this game, but I must be in really GOOD company because I see that loads of people bought it and THEY ARENT PLAYING IT... No amount of "rah rah rah" bullshit will ever cover up that sad fact. They made a game that was ostensibly trying to bring MORE people to the game, but somehow managed to not only NOT do that, but push the people who DID support the franchise further away... And somehow this is our fault?
Okay, so you like the game, Im glad you do. I do too, but it is so overshadowed by its flaws I just have no real urge to spend the hours and hours and hours it'd take to brainwash myself into thinking its a good game. Its not a coaster (the SP alone was worth the price of admission) but barring a miracle, this game will fall into the mists of gaming history pretty fast.
So say a few prayers for a miracle while the maps take their sweet time loading
TheRoDent 02-27-2005, 02:13 AM IG is responsible for the failure because somehow, they managed to convince VUG that T:V is (in Irritant's words) feature complete, and thus VUG let loose this piece of shit.
THAT is why Irrational is directly responsible for T:V's failure. They were lying through their teeth (and they know it) when they claimed it was "feature complete".
KnightMare 02-27-2005, 03:36 AM and when they said "it'll be fixed in retail"

I was under the impression that it's the publisher that tells the developer what features they want to be in the game at the time of release. Isn't that what they contract them for? To do what they want and to implement the features they would like to see?
How do you think it could have passed VUG's QA if it didn't have everything that VUG wanted?
onthelam 02-27-2005, 07:07 AM Why not assemble a team and patch it yourselves?
KnightMare 02-27-2005, 07:14 AM and right after we can fly to the moon!

I'm pretty sure t'is supposed to work that way. Except, it didn't in this case. Did it? The features that are there are broken. Features that made Tribes, Tribes have been left half out/in (ski carving for e.g.).
How do you think it could have passed VUG's QA if it didn't have everything that VUG wanted?
The game shipped without a dedicated server. That slipped right past the brilliant QA team. The game's multiplayer admin features are essentially nonfunctional. That one slipped right past em too...
I don't think it's much of a QA team buddy. More like a "hey, here's a coupla discs, fuck around with it for a few hours and tell us watcha think"-team.
Keep in mind that the game was released, and QA'd during the time that Sierra was being shut down. Who do you think was let go first? The QA team, fo sho.
