Can you really combine T1 and T2 gameplay and make everyone happy?

I don't think its possible. They are two different games.
Many of you think it is possible, and thats why you refuse to play anything until a game is produced that meets this fantastical criteria. T:V is a good game, but it is different than the other two, just like Tribes 2 is different than Tribes 1.
Some of you say "The Unreal engine is not suited to Tribes" and you would be correct, but we do have a working game here running on the Unreal engine. It is fun if you can look past the fact that it is not Tribes 1 or 2, and that it does not combine the gameplay of both and no game ever will, no matter how much you wish for it. If Legends is resurrected (which I wouldnt mind), there would be a new group who opose that game.

You guys are like the people who didn't get rock music when it was beginning. You're so wrapped up in how things used to be you can't move on.

Well, post your opinion and we'll continue the never-ending debate.

T1 & T2 - Think outside the box.
Tribes: Vengeance - Play inside a box.

Take T1, replace the Scout with a Shrike, add an SL and everyone is happy.

I've mentioned this more than enough times.

T1 and T2C players will probably be happy with the same physics and gameplay.

The only people you really need to satisfy would be the T2 Base player.

I think "Gametypes" could easily fulfill any Tribes players appetites. Just need someone in tune with T1 and T2. Not partial to one or the other.

yup, besides those two core types you also want maybe
an arena
a rabbit
and whatever wins between team rabbit and team rabbit 2.

I like this idea:

Crytek Engine

T1 weapon/vehicle/pack/deployable set (T1 mode)

T2 weapon/vehicle/pack/deployable set (T2 mode)

TV weapon/vehicle/pack/deployable set (TV mode)

T1 movement physics (for all modes)

T2 sensor and inventory scheme (for all modes)

Fully functional command map with a real commander mode (ala BF2)(all modes)

Bring back all gametypes (siege, CnH, etc)

New gametype: mode vs. mode (T1 set vs T2 set, etc) across all gametypes.

Mutator ability (within modes) at the server level, this would be especially important for mode vs mode servers (let the community find the proper balance).

They would have made a killing on this game.

Oh definately. Brings in those just looking for some deathmatching type game play.

I think there's a place for both Rabbit and Team Rabbit. I never thought of Team Rabbit as a Rabbit gametype. They should of called it something different like Tribal Rugby or something. :P

It's all in the gametypes, imo. You can cater to fans if you create gametypes that are fullfilling. Spend lots of time creating maps/rules that make it fun.

One of the things that's bothered me since the get go, was after 3 years or so in development they couldn't come up wiht something more creative than CTF. I mean, Tribes HAS to include CTF, but why couldn't they add something, you know, like "innovative"? Especially after what they saw happen with UT2K4 (may have been too late).

Oh well.

The Crytek engine is awesome in its scale and look, but they would need to seriously fix the netcode in that engine before I would think of it as a contender for a Tribes game. Torque may not be quite as pretty as crytek, but its smooth netcode and the capability to handle up to 64 players and huge maps makes it the current best bet.

But yeah if there was any other engine for Tribes it could be crytek only with stellar netcode. Farcry really got overshadowed by HF2 and Doom 3 which is sad because its an outstanding game on an awesome game engine that thinks outside the box.

yeah the ctf aspect is played out a little. the game physics in t1 allow for so much more creativity. i'm not sure adding a "plant the bomb" gametype is what it needs, but at least TRY. ball, fuel, not enough time.

all i know is our command map options should be blowing away the competitions. i hate getting nostalgic about classic tribes command map options reading about other upcoming games..

and where is the ingame voice damnit? f'n work it in already. find some way to route all voice data to ts2 servers if available or no voice if its not. you need voice in tribes, too many guys go "HEY HOW DO I PLAY THIS GAME" when they join up servers... surprise surprise no one plays hours of sp to learn how to get their butt kicked in mp.

Yeah, I believe that if you took the Tribes 1 player physics and the Tribes 2 equipment (weapons, vehicles, deployables) and then tweaked them accordingly, you'd have a game that would appeal to both crowds. Biggest tweaking point would be "controversial" things like the rocket launcher and Shocklance, but even then I am sure there is a compromise. With the right setup, purists from either side of the fence could mod it into a more 'pure' translation of the game to suit their wants.

The biggest hurdle, really, is just getting someone to actually see it through to completion.

Vengeance isnt as revolutionary and original as rock music was when it first appeared. Actually, TV isnt original or revolutionary in any way. But it IS a game evolving around CTF, something thats pretty uncommon today so in a way it is original.

And for an engine to do a next tribes game on. Its hard to say as the game hasnt been released yet, but the x-ray engine that Stalker runs on should do the job just fine. Dark and gritty graphics, outstanding effects and beautiful textures and huge maps!

Wonder if its netcode would fix it though. Will be interesting too see when it arrives.
