KillerONE 02-22-2005, 02:28 PM I've just come to terms with the fact I hate the grapple and pod. It's balance is unattainable by my standards. Balance doesn't make sense in the vien the grapple and pod suck the fun out of T:V in every way. They make absolutely no sense to me in the scheme of Tribes gameplay.
That said. Is there anyway, perhaps in the form of a mutator or scripting change on the server to disallow Pods/Grapple on a server?
If that can't be done, I'd like the following changes:
[POD]
When someone gets in a Pod it immediately goes straight up and offers no lateral controls. When shooting rockets, they loop back and punch you in the face.
[GRAPPLE]
When equiped, the middle of the screen houses a "You Suck" message that flashes red, pink and white at a siezure inducing pace. When you use the grapple it does NOT unlock and the player is stuck to whatever he first grappled to. Also, make sure it retracts in and out.
Anyway, I think simply not allowing the option to use the POD or GRAPPLE is the best option, my recommended changes were for entertainment purposes only.

Starwind 02-22-2005, 02:34 PM CompMod balanced the pod just fine. I do more ramming with it now (ala t2 shrike) than spam missles. Its quite fun :)
I'd be satisfied if the pod didn't shoot.

I have to disagree...ALMOST completely. The grappler gives cappers way too much manueverability which makes anything beyond a very good snipe a non viable option. You're right in the fact that the maps are way too small which makes the hardest part for a capper just to get lucky in not being blown up when he swings in for the flag. If he gets it, like 90% of the time that results in a cap because its just way too easy to float all the way back to your base.
Shooting cappers down was a lot better in T2. The way it's set up in T:V is just stupid and removing grapples would help. It's not like capping would suddenly become impossible with the removal of Grappling hooks. It'd just be a lot less frequent and make each cap more exciting and mean more(which is a good thing). I mean, it can't hurt to try removing them and I honestly think it will make gameplay a lot more exciting.

Every pub I've played in, I don't see anyone stopping Grapple Cappers (Ok, rarely) and stand offs are dominated and the result of the grappler.
It's a worthless addition to CTF. It might give some personal fun, but to the game, it's a detriment, imo.

Yeah, the grapple and pod are the reason everyone plays tv. :rolleyes:
All these if you don't like one aspect about tv then go play the old games have gone past the point of ridiculousness, I like tv, doesnt mean i like everything about it, the pod and grapple are easily some of the worst features of the game and removing them isn't going to make it into t1.

I've never considered the use of the grappler as skill. In fact, I see it as a crutch for players that aren't able to manuever and adjust their movement in time of need.
It's a "oops I fucked up" bail out weapon. Oh I got body blocked, let me grapple around the corner and build up instant momentum and still grab at 200kph 10m from the flag.
The only skill would be a player that can actually catch another grappler, using a grapple, being able to shoot him down and still maintain chase.
It's the chase that I hate. I can easily stop a grappler before he grabs on most cases. But if he does grab, it wouldn't matter if it was a shitty grab or route, just loop d loop swing this way and that and off he goes at mach one.
How in the hell do you get 3 - 1 on Spiridian? I was on 5150 last night (ya, the noob servers I hang out on) and what'd ya know, 3 to 5 minute stand offs with grapplers swinging back and forth here and there.
What happened to having to cluster your carrier to keep him safe and get a good dropped flag pickup?
What happened to the chases where you acutally NEED an escort? Where you could see 2 to 3 LD giving chase? No where. Cause the super eleet takes omg amount of skill ( :rolleyes: ) is sucking the fun out of the core elements of Tribes CTF.
Back to the point of this thread. Someone please make this mutator, PM if you need help or need me to up it to a server.
