I'm debating whether or not I should buy Tribes Vengenance...

I used to play Tribes 1 fairly heavily (I was in a small clan, played in tournaments several times a week, etc), but I really wasn't too fond of Tribes 2. I'm not really sure why but it just felt way too different from the original Tribes I guess.

As for T:V, I've played the demo and it looks like a ton of fun and reminds me a lot of Tribes 1, but I'm wondering a couple of things:

1) How many people are playing T:V? For example, is it as popular as UT2K4?
2) Does T:V compare to T1 in any way?
3) Should I buy T:V?

No, try the demo first.

1) You wish. Right now, we're getting about 3-400 at peak times

2) It's fast and doesn't force teamplay like T2 did. That's pretty much all, movement and other fundamental things are pretty different.

3) If you can find it cheap, yes, definately give it a try.

I own a copy and would buy it again if something ever happened. Player counts range from 160-400+. Those should be increasing with the mods that are coming out. In my unbiased opinion Renegades http://www.renwerx.com looks the best, however there are other choices such as Compmod and Tac3.

1. Not many. No.
2. Nope.
3. Yes, there is still unrealized potential in the game.

2) the speed is there, and general concepts similar, (ho, ld, cappers etc)
but a lot is different. the weapons have limits on their range and velocity inheritance, (you can out run your disc!)
thankfully, compmod is a project to restore some weapons back to their proud state, but even base is fun as it is.

3) if you have a decent comp (i recommend 3000+ and above, 1gig ram, modern vid card) go for it if the demo suits you. for 20 bucks it really is worth it. it a modern tribes game, despite how much people diss it...

If you ever liked T1 or T2, you won't like T:V.

Pay no attention to NoFiX.

I played T1 for over two years, loved it. I played T2 for a year, loved it as well. I've been playing T:V since the first betas, purchased it at the first opportunity, and I've been playing it ever since, and guess what? I love it.

I facking love T:V (and yeah, I been playing T1 for 6 years and continue to play today.) It is a great game and has a lot of potential to get even better between mods and maps. The only beef I have with T:V is the player base, which currently is dwarfed by how many played T1 in the glory days.

I would definately buy it, you really can't go wrong for ~$20. Plus it has a more than decent single player if all else fails.

And although it is a new game, it is somewhat T1 esque in gameplay. Despite all the naysayers, it is fun, at very least, way better than T2 was at release.

I'd tell you to play the demo, but big surprise, there's no one playing it. lol

Pay no attention to the whiners here- I'm the only member of my tribe that reads this board- the rest of them are unaware that the game does anything but rock. They'd like to see a patch to improve server admin and map downloads, but don't realize that they are supposed to be outraged that it's been delayed.

UT2k4 has a LOT more players, but if you play that and find yourself wishing you had a jetpack and could ski, you'll LOVE T:V.

In my opinion, there really is nothing out there new that compares to the complexity & lifespan of T:V right now. It's a simpler game to get into but just as difficult if not moreso to master than that of T1 or T2 due to inclusions such as the buckler and grappler.

If you enjoy beautiful graphics, flying around with a jetpack and skiing down slopes, grappling the side of a building like spiderman whipping around and getting an MA off on your bud, you can't go wrong.

Just get in a clan asap since it's the best way to really enjoy the game.

Did anyone read his post, he said he played the Demo.

It's fun. It's not T1 or T2, but it's not a stuck to the ground bunny hopping FPS like all the others.

How about this... Do you enjoy playing with a group of guys and having fun?

Clans do not have to compete to enjoy the game you know.

Some of the most fun I've ever had in the game is going on voice comm with 5 or 6 guys and rover racing around Emerald having a blast! This game is fun as hell with the right people playing together. A lot of the time, we'll grab an invo, go somewhere on a map and just duel one another, no flags involved.

That's my point.

as for people playing the game.

I do not see that many good pubs as there were with T1 and T2.

I remember in the early T2 days there were daily westcoast pickups which were always fun to play in.

In T:V, on average theres maybe only 10 servers that actually have enought people playing in them.

one problem that really hurt t:v out of the gate was.....no dedicated server was released when it shipped. no clue what they were thinking.

when they finally released one, it was beta...and its the only one we've ever had since.
