About a week to MP-Katabatic beta

I know I am going to be in for the flaming of the century for remaking this map. I know there are quite a lot of people who wish that Katabatic never see the light of T:V day. On the other hand it was one of my favorite T2 maps, and I enjoy doing remakes right now. So I just wanted to get the flaming over early. I am almost done and expect to be in beta within a week.

I am wearing my flame-retardant underwear, so.... flame away!!

pics? I never played T2 much, but I remember one thing: the only effing map anyone palyed was Kata, so it must be good right?

It was good IMO but overrated and definitely overplayed. I'm looking forward to seeing what you've done though wonderball. :)

I see...you're not going to post any pics. So the only reason for the thread is for people to flame you for remaking a horrible map? That seems perfectly logical :rolleyes:

Don't forget to scale the terrain properly this time... and if you don't used titled terrain, I'm gonna freak. :x

On the otherhand, it should be interesting to see what you come up with for vehicles since every one of T:V's vehicles should be represented. Yer prolly going to have to expand the old vehicle platform some to accomidate them all.

Dont forget - it was a well designed T2 map and quite fun despite its MAIN flaw... not being able to control your spawn. Now MidField bases will make a big difference if its properly played since you can decide to hold it or not. Could turn out to be 1 of the best maps.. well have to see.

Yikes... are you having an attack of some kind? Typo city! :p

Actually, you raise an important point... I hadden't even thought about the forward spawning bases. Thinking about what I hadden't thought about makes me think of some other things I hadden't thought about (hows that for a convuloted sentance?).

Turrets.

I would strongly suggest that the forward turret be a Chaingun and the main base turret be AA. There might be some kezetching from the cowboy capper crowd about that, but giving the defence something effective to work with just encourages teamwork... and that's something T:V needs.

Deployables

Turrets, mines, and inventories need to be oginized, logical, and accessable. The upper levels of the two main bunkers that were never really used before would make very good equipment storage.

Boundries

Back capping was important in Kata. You might need to push the rear bounderies back some to allow for it.

I'm interested to see how the map plays in T:V if the base layout is the same. I imagine it'll feel a lot like Isle.

To me, it will never feel like T2 Kata though. *sigh* I miss those 64-player servers, those battles on an epic scale! But not the shocklance or conc grenades or lock-on missiles or Shrike capping... ^_^;

i'm excited for this. i didn't play katabatic too much in t2, but it looked like a whole lotta fun (its probably gonna make t2 shrike players go through withdrawal again, kata seemed like it was in all the shrike videos). seeing how beggars run turned out, i'm reaaally excited for wb's remake.

tile the terrain this time, the void scares me. :scared:

Flames! No way are you going to get flamed. Look I know kata is way overplayed in T2, and some hardcore T2 competition vets may make fun of the map, but this map is VERY popular and the Euro servers love it. If this is of the same calibur as your beggars run map then Wonderball, you win my TV map conversion maker of the year award. (and to the other great map makers, note I said conversion map maker).

The only problem, and its not the conversion, is that this map is VERY popular in T2 partially for shriek capping. Without that element in TV Im not sure how fun it will be. T1 folks may not understand why its so popular, but its mostly due to being a great shriek capping map. Hope some mod makes shriek capping capable either maybe with the POD or by adding an appropriate shriek.

It can't be a perfect re-make of the original because of the way T:V modified gameplay, so I am VERY interested to see how you are going to solve some of the translation issues.

I'm willing to help any way I can and that includes completly re-making all the stock T2 Kata textures higher resolution for you. Contact me asap... aka COBRA forums.

Yeah Zio is right. A lot of the popularity of this map is related to things you could do in T2 that just arent available in TV, along with TV's forced skiing. (A lot of the map is not really catered well to skiing). Still I say keep it to the orignal, or make one called katabatic TV or something. I'm sure some mods in the future will bring the Shriek back. I beleive they are working on doing that with the renegades mod but I'm not sure.
