guess we know why the patch was delayed
- it is a good level though.
TF_Baxter 01-04-2005, 11:38 AM that's just great
Reverend Zero 01-04-2005, 11:40 AM They should be working on the patch and fixing shazbot instead of this.
Got Haggis? 01-04-2005, 11:41 AM i'm guessing seperate teams are working on the patch and the demo...but its fun to blame the patch delay on this anyway
Geiss 01-04-2005, 11:47 AM wtf?

Patches won't sell more units.
FreshMeat 01-04-2005, 12:06 PM Im with Haggis. If the patch delay means that we will get a better and more reliable patch, then hell, I will wait. I much rather have a solid patch, then a patch that breaks more shazbot (like what happened in T2).
Pachacutec 01-04-2005, 12:43 PM i think this is a great idea. seems ppl get taken by the sp stuff, and that IS a cool level. i cna't think it was that hard to put together.
KnightMare 01-04-2005, 12:58 PM this should of been the first demo.
Amadeus 01-04-2005, 01:00 PM Did it have to be the level that teaches you to O snipe?
Pachacutec 01-04-2005, 01:05 PM btw I've figured out what happens to most newbies now that I've seen it so many times in servers.
1. newbie spawns in raped base, waits for repair, outfits with speedpack and rocketpod
2. trys to go fast midair with speedpack and dies (waits for raped base repair)
3. newbie tries same config usually, and this time, fires the rocketpod at a passing enemy, misses totally (or rocket pod reaches target before acceptable arming distance) and is killed easily by said other enemy.
4. respawns again in same base, raped.
5. considers trying another config, or drops server.

Someone define to me O snipe. How can people complain so harshly with sniping? I stand in the center of a map and snipe someone, and I get blamed for "O sniping". I have never seen more peeople complain in any other game, ever.

Thanks a lot for the info. I've been trying to figure this one out myself... :roller:

its a left over from other tribes games.
In previous tribes games, holding the base was definitely doable with the right team. find the choke points, load up with shield packs and mortars and spam to keep the bad guys out. this is "turtling"
during flag standoffs, when people went sniper offense, (so?) the majority of the time this would scare the flag holder into the base, and the remaining team would come in around him, causing a turtle.
30 minutes of trying to penetrate mortar spam is NOT fun.
o-sniping seems to be allowed in t:v because of the grappler and how hard it is to get one of those guys, but people just consider it a bad tactic in general since one man taking pot shots occasionally isn't that productive; its not like they'd be one-shot kills.
and you're wrong, ppl complain way more about snipers in cs :)
as a 4 or so year vet of the game, i'll say the following confidently
o-sniping to return the grappling flag holder is a very viable pub and competition technique, and any admin that doesn't allow that role is living in denial. (in 5150 servers, notorious for hatred of osnipers, its allowed in server rules explicitly i believe)

it ruins pubs.
-Wolverine 01-04-2005, 01:58 PM Did it have to be the level that teaches you to O snipe? hahaha
crouton 01-04-2005, 02:09 PM pac's explanation is pretty good. When I was admin'ing, I said 'No O sniping'. T:V pubs are hard enough to enjoy without some doofus going lone wolf with a sniper rifle. The game is about teamplay, not who can score the most headshots. If you're close enough to the enemy base to snipe, you might as well go get the flag or eff up their gen room. Not everyone agrees with this sentiment, but a major consequence of O sniping is turtling, which everyone dislikes.
That said, it is amusing that O sniping is evil but mortar spam is acceptable.
Devil Slayer 01-04-2005, 02:12 PM Bout time the released a demo thats good, and actually shows off the games strengths instead of the cramped, pointless frag-fest the first demo was.
Plague 01-04-2005, 02:24 PM Third? What was the second? That boring stadium mission, _____, Mercury mission.
And "robot?" Groan.
Amadeus 01-04-2005, 02:31 PM Umm, MP demo?
