Tales from the Gimp (T:V banter)

Well it's mid-day and I decided to post some weapon-related experiences I've had. Cliffs follow.

As of late I've been pubbing with my "gimp" loadout: Buckler, Rocket Pod and Burner on Medium/E-pack... I figured I'd try and get a feel for the weapons I use the absolute least and the results have been fairly interesting.

The Rocket Pod is nuts, I might be mistaken but it seems that you can take down a light en route to flag in one swarm of rockets? [Without active shield] I've found waiting for a capper to hit a valley and let loose when they come up and their flight path is pretty much decided, matching their upward arc and meeting at the apex, so to speak... In general if you can lead a light the right way you can drop them FAST. I had never considered the Rocket Pod a capable anti-personnel armament.

After seeing people like TAU|Haut and Raziel work the buckler I decided to give it a serious try... It takes a lot of practice to become proficient with but its repellant properties are MARVELOUS... However I still don't think that it's worth the weapon slot in an offensive loadout due to the pause between firing and momentary dedication to guiding the buckler to your target.

Always a fan of Plasma I've been put off by the burner's energy consumption since day 1... Never the less I enjoy it's gracious splash radius and direct hit damage. I've found the burner useful in tagging cappers up during the grab, but 1on1 it's just a sacrifice to switch to Burner... The best thing about the burner IMO is its astounding power to control another player's movement. If you can't tag them you can set them up for something else, admittedly like most other weapons, but I don't think people have the same impetus to dodge other projectiles as they do with Burner rounds.

All-in-all it comes down to application... And none of these weapons have enough to get them into non-specialty (e.g. vehicle-effing) loadouts, which is a shame because I've grown terribly fond of them all.

Anyone have tips/suggestions/advantageous situations regarding these weapons?

Cliffs:
- FaCE rambles on about pub fighting and knows nothing of competitive play.
- Rocket Pod is constantly understated in terms of power.
- The Burner Buckler and Rocket Pod just don't cut the offensive mustard.
- No gimps were harmed in the typing of this thread.
- Gimps will be harmed if they equate discussion with flames.

totally agree on - number 3.
it'd be nice if the rocket were aimable instead of waiting all the year for the perfect angle to kill.

the buckler is very fun and rewarding to use, except if they have shield on, then you wish you were playing t1 again and you had your t1 chaingun.

the burner is the uber defensive weapon, but eh, as an versatile offensive weapon slot.
i wish the alt-fire of that gun was the spammy version and the main fire of it was a better version of the t1 plasma gun.

however, alt-fires for tribes are new ground god forbid, i'll leave that there.

The rocket pod has comparable damage to the mortar. Usually it takes 2 mortars to take out a gen, it also takes the RP two full 6 rocket hits to bring down a gen also.

The damage is very comparable, and if you got very good with the thing, you could have a very effective, short range mortar subsitute for lights.

The buckler is probably one of the best things that happened to defense. It's one sick dueling weapon, some people bitch about it being gimped. I know some people who are so incredibly nuts with that thing, they WILL get 2 hits on you no matter what. It's a much more controlible and reliable weapon than trying to get an MA.

The burner is neat. The plasma rifle was pretty cool, probably a decent dueling weapon, but right now I think the buckler can really subsitute quite well as an alternative. The burner is an excellent tool for O & D, it allows you to control spam a bit better, and has some tactical implications. Overall these weapons are pretty good, and are very underrated.

Rocketpod should lock on to heat sources (Jetpacks, Vehicle Engines)

/me runs away with a T2 box under his arm!

the burner is effing great. so damn good.

what was gimped was the nade launcher (aka no one ever touches the ground anymore because of the grappler so its a lot less usefull)

nah. in fact, if you practice with it long enough, the moment they actually do hit the ground they get flattened. i piss off alot of cappers with it on Tropics, loooong range :) it's good for disorienting cappers, taking turrets out... it's just not a good "dueling" weapon.

Burner is nice against grapple turtlers & fighters.

Hey, a real and constructive thread !

Nice :)

I have to train with buckler, and I agree with you about the rocket pod - very effective, but also need training for aiming...

it was still much more useful in T1. that is all
