T-VET 11-23-2004, 04:14 PM Perhaps the next Tribes game will be one built by the community, something similar to Legends.
What makes you think there is gonna be another version of Tribes? If they Do, I hope they use the New Torque Engine!

I seriously doubt there will be another Tribes game. By a professional development house, that is.
A community project is always open, though. It would have to be something in the vain of Legends -- not in anyway related to Tribes or the universe that surrounds it but it retains some of the Tribes 'essence'.
Wolfchylde 11-23-2004, 04:25 PM Catering to a few hundred people isn't going to work.
We all saw how much everyone got behind Legends. When Legends could have potentially been everything this so-called Tribes community wanted.
I think it's just a niche VOCAL minority that want this very specific set of skiing/weapons. That minority isn't able to get something like Legends and make it happen.
If there were truly THOUSAND AND THOUSANDS of Tribes fans that want a T1 style of gameplay, then Legends would still be around. I think it's just a testament to the fact that the MAJORITY doesn't want T1, necessarily.
It's also sad, that once again, TW rejects another Tribes game. And, once again, those that enjoy the game have to remain in hiding to avoid redicule. Once again we have to find a place to gather to "enjoy" the Tribes community, participate and make it better. Instead we have to in some way vindicate each post and fight off the "unsatisfied" poster forcing everyone to side with his OPINION.
There's nothing fun about participating in a community that doesn't share a common interest. TribesTalk should be about building Tribes UP, not constantly tearing it down.
Constructive criticism is good. Bug reporting is good. Being a whiny flaming jerk is not.
Either participate in a positive manner, or spend time in GD or on SA forums.
(Sorry about the rant..)
:)
No KO, its understandable. I REALLY wish I was better at coding/mapping/whatever cuz Id happily work on trying to come up with something that *I* thought was better (and then seeing if anyone in the community agreed). Unfortunately I dont have those skills yet, though Im starting to dig up as much info and learn my way through BECAUSE Id like to see if any of the ideas rattling about in my head would make the game more enjoyable.
Ah well, time will tell.... :D

I wouldnt hold my breath for them using Torque.
1) I dont think VUG and GG parted on good terms whatsoeever.
2) With the current VUG/Valve battle, I dont know if GG would even consider dealing with VUG again anyways.
Phantom 11-23-2004, 04:37 PM No, seriously, anyone who says "they" should use Torque, have you actually done any research about it, and what makes you think you know better than the developers that would do it?
What do you know about the engine except that it was used for previous tribes games and the games themselves kinda worked?
daerid 11-23-2004, 04:59 PM The Torque Engine would be ideal for this kind of project. When we started back in August of 2001, Torque was in it's infancy. Since then, it's evolved into quite the mature engine, especially with the advent of Torque Shader Engine.
The other plus point is that it's community developed, with patches and bugfixes submitted by torque licensees, the stability has come waaaaaaaaay up.
As far as the question of "Will the community rise to fix T:V the way it attempted with Tribes 2?"
Magic 8-ball says: "Sources point to no"
Pachacutec 11-23-2004, 05:28 PM also, graphically, even the preview screenshots of the shader engine dont match up to modern fps quality, hl2 and the like... even t:v is pretty well dont graphically. you can argue it wasn't made to look realistic, but could probably do realism pretty damn well.

Graphically, it might not be equal to Source, but when you look at the price tag and <gasp> understand what you can do with Torque / TSE you'd probably reconsider your initial thoughts about it(TSE).

No point in buying the engine when you can come up with a mod that will allow tons of people to join the community.
Piata 11-23-2004, 06:54 PM Well I think there is a reason to hate T:V where as T2 really is a pretty good sequal when it comes down to it. Still, we need to bring people into the community. After T:V I don't think many people will be up to a Tribes game .. . thats why I stress that a mod of a popular game may be our only chance. Free+Large user base = high attach rate. :) Thats what we need. The problem with legends was that it was a stand alone game.
T:V is what T2 should have been. Aren't you the same guy that suggested making a Tribes mod for HL2? That was quite possibly the dumbest idea I've ever read

T2 would have been dead years ago if T:V came out in its place.

Why did you quote me and type that?
black label 11-23-2004, 08:33 PM How hard would it be, to take tribes 2, and redo the graphics, and the sound, make it a little more network friendly, and tweak the physics?
It would be very easy to Beat a dead horse into the ground.

your community has 90 people online real good community you have.

It was only used for one game, Tribes 2, the engine that Tribes one and Starsiege where built on is called Darkstar and it was a one off engine (albeit a good one) that they only used for those two and then shelved and lost the source to or atleast that is what we keep being told.
menes 11-23-2004, 10:02 PM Well it would be ancient today and not very viable for any new development. So who cares.
KillerONE 11-23-2004, 10:58 PM your community has 90 people online real good community you have.
Way to make up numbers.
And, if you didn't notice, you are also part of the community. What's your point?

Read it again stupid.
Dumb fuk

/me reads it again..
Umm, k, still don't understand his point. Unless he means, you can ONLY have a good community if you have LOTS of people in it. Which is a pretty rediculous statement.

This isn't too difficult, but try this with me;

He wasn't making anything up. At the time, there were only 90 players online, ie. PLAYING THE GAME.
