I beg to differ:

Hey, no fair, WoW came out.

lol LA I remember you calling me out for not giving it a chance.

You didn't. I made that comment in beta assuming they would fix all of the things we told them that were wrong... apparently that was a poor assumption.

I guess a bunch of my beefs would be settled with a nice, meaty soundpack. ;)

I'm kinda behind the times. Is there a LakRabbit for T:V yet? :ftard:

T:V is a duelists dream. I guess that's why I love it.

I find it interesting that some mappers are building large scale T2 style maps. On the surface, this sounds like a great idea, but as we are rapidly finding out, T:V in it's current form does not lend itself to this style of play at all.

Myself, I love the smaller maps such as Emerald and I love the constant action.

T2 was sometimes boring in pubs if there weren't enough people on to populate a huge map. I remember the hordes of people asking for smaller maps and gameplay that lent itself to dueling over everything else.

We have been given what they asked for.

I don't miss beacons, the elf, mine-disking, the medpack, the sensor jammer pack, the deployable sensors, the deployable camers, the multiple turret deployable types. I do miss the shocklance every now and again though.

It's not perfect, nothing is, and you will never make everyone happy. But I think T:V got it right this time around, except for the pod.

You nailed it on the head, especially with the Emerald example. The whole style of play leads it to more duelling/deathmatch, hence the oversimplified UT comparisons). There's nothing else to set up except for some on-the-ground-only turrets, repair stations and remote inventories. Much fewer options this time around. Nothing else to do but let the cowboys cap while everyone else duels.

Actually, I miss some of those :-(...gave one a bit more tools to play with...I actuallyer prefer the manned turrets tho but miss the option to switch out the barrel.

Don't know why the fighter (aka "Pod") was made so blatantly "spammy" but we've all beat that topic to death...

Many in my tribe didnt like the game for a variety of reasons...and then WoW as well = the first time my team has not had an active team since T1

Yes, and the way they are implemented now simply SUCKS...
Inventory management in general sucks now. I'm hoping someone can mod in what T:V lacks in this department. Although, deploying might be more efficient this way if a team plans around it. keyword being MIGHT.

I'll grant you that... almost... sorta.
What's there to grant? They had good reason to remove it and it does improve gameplay in a lot of ways.

I love that comment "most people never liked"... Bull. PLENTY of people loved it, just not the duellists and the face to face combatants :P Sneaking may not have been YOUR concept of Tribes, but it added an element of danger to the game: If you stayed in the base you were NOT safe. You also had to be aware of both the visual AND the auditory to keep alive. Sorry if that doesnt meet YOUR definition of Tribes, but *I* enjoyed it. HOWEVER, having said that, the cloak pack doesnt FIT in Tribes: Vengeance because it takes place before T1 (so they dont fit in the timeline)
The only time I used cloakpack in competition was to return a flag. I can't say I miss it... sneaking around and stabbing people in the back is not my idea of Tribes. If I wanted that I would play Thief.

See above, and a LOT of people got pretty good at it, I just think the range and the hitscan nature was a problem.
Shocklance wasn't hitscan as far as I know (I don't think any tribes weapons are hitscan). Good at and being effective at are two different things. Very few people got good enough at it to really be a threat. At least in my experience.

Oh please, if the whole T1/T2 argument is your best defense of T:V, give up now kplzthx.

I enjoy it. The game is fast, skiing is great (water skiing adds a nice touch), I love the grapple and I think with a few custom maps and more players it can be a really solid game. There's great depth perception and unlike some people in this thread I feel the disc is bang on. Turrets and vehicles aren't stupid powerful but are still useful.. That's all I got right now.

Ergo I conlcude it doesn't deserve the title of Tribes.

I know quite a few players who got very good at it...I hated the weapon until I realized how effective it was in the hands of LD.

In case you haven't logged into T:V recently... it's not JUST the guys who have been playing for 7+ years. It's everyone.

And the reason for these threads is to tell the guys up at VUG that they need to do some serious marketing and bug fixing in order to revive the game.

This whole 'tw whingers are wrecking it' sentiment is completly ridiculous. How many people do you think read this board? a few thousand perhaps, popular games sell millions of copies and casual gamers and the type of interest this game was suppose to attract certainly dont visit tw.

It's also not because the game doen't have the depth of the others or that you personally think its shazbot and that other people MUST think exactlly like you, so dont buy it. The fact is the game got great reviews when it came out, which is probably all the casual gamer looks at before he buys a game.

Yet when I went to pick up my copy of tv a few days after it came out, it was stuck in the highest corner of the display of pc games at eb with 1 facing. No display case no nothing, 1 poxy copy of the game way up high on display. And aside from ign doing some developer reviews it really had no publicity at all.

So just stop kidding yourseleves, I know you probably like to feel like your little board and opinions here make a real differance to sales but they don't.

Lack of marketing killed the game and nothing else.

On that same note, no patch is going start making the game sell better, maybe a few digruntled gnomes from tw will be appeased and buy it but the larger market wont even know about it.

Lack of marketing killed the game and nothing else

Tribes 1 and 2 had very little marketing as well if I remember correctly. I think if it was a game truely note worthy it would sell quite well and gain more serious fans (in comparison to its other titles) by word of mouth and a small amount of marketing. It wasnt an ad that got me to buy Tribes 1 or 2 or hardly any game I have bought to be honest. I dont think it was marketing and nothing else that hurt T:V (if it is indeed hurt).
