Anyone able to play Vengeance on a 56k connection?

Yikes. I hate to say it, but you may be SOL with Tribes using a dialup connection (hopefully someone can prove me wrong!)

A lot of people say that Tribes is more netcode-heavy than other FPS's. I can't say that I've seen a major difference, but it would still be a good idea to check out broadband services in your area if they're available. Anybody else have any ideas?

The devs said T:V would be broadband only from the beggining....sorry man, but you will have to look into other options.

i play T:V on dialup, and it's significantly better than t1 on 56k... i sometimes forget about it entirely if i'm on a fast server :shrug:

edit: not to mislead you... you will be at a disadvantage still, how big a one depending on how you cope with it...

ah id only replied to the thread's topic line ... let's see here:

1) don't use AOL. aol is gaming doom. simple as that. i have peoplepc which is DIRT effing cheap and provides a lot of #s with good/stable linespeeds for me at least (57.6,50.6,49.2 kbps) ...
2) make sure your modem is the best outdated piece of crap it can be. you need a hardware modem of some quality.
3) jack your modem's send/recieve buffers up as high as you can without causing instability.
4) select Modem/whatever in T:V's connection prefs and tick "adjust connection speed while playing" ...
5) fish around for good servers and don't whine that you're on dialup until someone whines that you're warping all over the place ;)


uhm other than that get a faster connection.

i played beta and release on a 28.8, and it seemed smoother than t1.

imo, for hpb T:V is nps. avg pings 250-300, quite playable tho sometimes it bounces around like a spastic hampster.

I have $10 that says VersionVier (a 56ker) would walk all over you in T:V. I for one played t1 and t2 on a 56k. Yes it was a bitch, but my area only got DSL a little while ago.

I to play T:V on dial up that runs at 26k (im sooo damn far from my ISP) and its not that bad i use a 36k external server modem and i get a ping around 200 and its really not that bad, i get atleast top 3, 3 out of 5 games.

I used to play on a 56k up until 2 weeks ago. It was quite playable until the server got to about 8v8 at which point you'd really warp if there were too many guys on your screen. The no AOL advice is good, also, make sure you're not using one of those WinModem's that uses cpu cycles...

I suggest you research those you choose to talk about before making such great claims. I ranked #4 on the TWL classic duel ladder and led a clan since the beginning of T2 competing in ARENA and CTF.

I'm on 56k and i get a ping of approx 130 - 180, easily playable (although i definately do better when playing with dsl)

The again i live in nz and the server is prolly really close to me :P

I suggest you research those you choose to talk about before making such great claims. I ranked #4 on the TWL classic duel ladder (After all the good players quit, and it was nothing but newbies.) and led a (Decidedly sub-par) clan since the beginning of T2 (no comment needed about the t2 thing) competing in ARENA and CTF (See edit 1 regarding all the good teams leaving).

56k'ers, stick to owning my sorry ass.
