Dearest PC Gamer,

I feel I may be one of many to disagree with your review of the latest
addition to the Tribes series. While I am reluctant to admit it, I
played Tribes 2 in its earlier days, I enjoyed it. However, I have
also played many of the latest games that Brett Todd refers to in his
review, such as Unreal Tournament 2004 and Battlefield 1942. While
the review holds merit, I feel as if it missed many main points of
this newest installment. Many of the gripes had by Brett Todd were
off their mark.

Tribes: Vengeance does not have the greatest single player story in
the world; we won't be seeing Ant Orman claiming an Oscar at the
Academy Awards any time in the near future. However, the storyline to
T:V, I feel, can hold its own as part of a multiplay-oriented game.
The non-linear story should be a welcomed addition to the gaming
world; some of the more acclaimed, ground-breaking movies sport this
latest fashion. And, to a certain point, a story should not be so
complex in itself where the sole purpose is to lose and confuse the
average reader or viewer. The single player in Tribes: Vengeance,
even with its sub-par voice acting, offered a concise, interesting
story that does more than just acquaint the player with the physics of
the game.

The multiplayer element present in T:V is the strongest of the entire
series and is still stronger than many games "gracing" the market
today. Somehow Irrational Games, the same creators of our beloved
Freedom Force, managed to take the complexity of the Tribes gameplay
and simplify it into something every game can enjoy, without being
branded with the "jack of all trades, master of none" title.
Teamwork, what Tribes and Tribes 2 prides themselves on, holds and
even stronger presence. The balance of complexity and speed of play,
something very few other hackneyed FPS games can grasp, fuels the
engaging and memorable gameplay.

My advice: take another look at Tribes: Vengeance. The next time you
scratch your head and ask yourself, "Which game to play next?" spend
some time with T:V. Sit down, play through the pedantic single
player, then fire up a LAN server and play it around the office. I
predict after a little experience, the heated 4 vs 4 (or whatever
number you choose) matches will conquer your lives.

Sincerely,
Michael "Insane_Mike" Sutton

Computer Games also shows a LOT better understanding of the game

Tribes Vengeance is a major accomplishment and an excellent game. It's not realistic, but it's believeable. It's not a radical reinvention of Tribes, but teh changes are almost all good. Best of all, it's not another me-too tactical shooter; instead it opts for and delivers pure adrenaline-fueled entertainment. Computer Games: December 2004

the article admits the game has flaws, but at least its written by someone with Tribes experience.

they also said the game pretty much sucks.

Thanks for writing, We've only received three fanboy email
complaints about the review. I very much appreciate your readership..

I talked to him about it and basically, at the time I sent mine, 4 people had e-mailed him. One was Menzo I think, the other me. The other two were refuted because they admitted they hadn't read the review. I guess Insane Mike could have been that 3rd "fanboy." Everyone else was just... useless!
