I just got a new comp from a friend. It works great except for some reason my hard drive is labeled F, instead of C. According to him he tried to install Linux or something and screwed it up. I have no idea what I'm doing and wondered if someone could help. :(

Is there anyway I can change it back to C?

You can't change the drive label whilist Windows is running.

Partition Magic can do it, however some of your programs may cease to function if they're looking for "F", but are suddenly on "C".

Knoppix (a linux live CD) comes with QTParted (like Partition Magic but free), which can also likely do this for you. You may have the same problems with programs looking to F instead of C.

Reinstalling windows might also work.

you CAN change the drive letter in windows, just not your boot drive. heres how: you right click the my computer icon, click manage. then on disk management, right click your drive and then on "change drive letter and paths"
