Copy Protection Issues with purchased software (aka no workie - i put down 50 bucks)

Okay so out of the box Dawn of War (http://www.dawnofwargame.com) didnt work. It was no problem because of course, the warez monkies had a no-cd patch for the downloadable version. But now there is a new patch and I can't play the dang game till I either get this working or a no-cd comes out for the 1.10 - and for those that would jump out and exclaim that I'm obviously pirating the game, ask anyone who I've played online with, you can't play the game on gamespy without a legitimate key

Okay - to the meat of the issue, there is no error message, nothing in my tasks (ctrl-alt-delete - task manager) dawn of war related, it just simply does nothing clicking the shortcut, the exe, and the autoplay "Play the game" or whatever button

I KNOW its an issue with their Copy protection because the no-cd made 1.0 and 1.01 work fine. SO, while this may skirt around the bounds of no-piracy good taste, I would really like my 50$ matching set of 3 coasters to work

Things I have done to get around this problem
1. (link (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=24012)) Made an image of the file, mounted it on with d-tools - same thing happened (nothing) when trying to start the game. Also uninstalled the game, and reinstalled via the image - same result. Tried with securerom (the CP in use) emulation both on and off.

2. Thought that maybe it didnt like my old Acer peice of crap cd-rom drive, same result with my CD-RW and I just got back from best buy with a DVD-rom drive and that didnt work (though on the upside I can watch dvds heh)

3. I downloaded a program off of gamecopyworld that allegedly would bypass most securerom CP but when I ran it nothing happened and it probably gave my computer aids (great)

So I'm a little lost here. I have this great 50$ plunked down on a game I love, but can't play. Would uninstalling nero/d-tools/alcohol be worthwhile ? Any other sorts of ideas ?

specs for what its worth
AMD 1900+, a snazzy Geforce 2gts (oh yeah baby), a swanky new Sony DVDrom drive (48x cdrom / 16xDVD - set as slave), running on Win2k

i don't have time to really dig into this, but perhaps it refuses to run when it detects something like daemon tools or clonecd drive emulator (whatever it's called) installed?

you know, the software that mounts images as drives...

check into that on google perhaps.

for what its worth, none of my naughty programs are running in the background so I cant imagine that would be conflicting

and while there are some kinds of CP that actively FIND AND RENAME YOUR DAEMON TOOLS (that was a fun time) I dont think SecureROM does anything of that sort

And the relic fourms probably have people reporting that DoW killed their firstborn and raped their cattle, the idiocy rating there is astounding, so I take most of the crap I read there with a grain of salt (OMG I FIXED MY PROBLEM BY HOLDING MY BREATH FOR 30 SECONDS SAYING I LOVE RELICS THROBBING COCK IN MY MANGINA OVER AND OVER IN MY HEAD TRY IT - IT WORKS ... sigh)

I have the same type of problem with my laptop and T:V, the drive is actually incompatible with the new securerom. Before I found this out I had brought the game back to EB games and told them it was defective.. got another copy and same thing happened. Only way I can play it on my laptop is copying it over my network and using the no cd thing.. kinda ironic.

btw laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5150

Another game I bought has this problem - also a secuROM 5 game

I should really stop purchasing software at this rate

Exact same problem, different game (Immortal Cities: Children of the Nile)

Do you guys have any idea of what in gods name could cause something like this ?

Ive uninstalled all of my burning / virtual drive programs - even some that didnt strike me as remotely iffy (a real old version of nero) I uninstalled on the off chance that it was blacklisted.

Does SecurROM 5, for lack of a better way to explain, "save" in the registry or something under its own entry that you shouldnt be able to run securom games? I don't have anything left that could piss it off, unless its something stupid hanging out in my registry that doesnt show up in my add/remove programs

This is quite maddening
