Okay so out of the box Dawn of War (http://www.dawnofwargame.com) didnt work. It was no problem because of course, the warez monkies had a no-cd patch for the downloadable version. But now there is a new patch and I can't play the dang game till I either get this working or a no-cd comes out for the 1.10 - and for those that would jump out and exclaim that I'm obviously pirating the game, ask anyone who I've played online with, you can't play the game on gamespy without a legitimate key
Okay - to the meat of the issue, there is no error message, nothing in my tasks (ctrl-alt-delete - task manager) dawn of war related, it just simply does nothing clicking the shortcut, the exe, and the autoplay "Play the game" or whatever button
I KNOW its an issue with their Copy protection because the no-cd made 1.0 and 1.01 work fine. SO, while this may skirt around the bounds of no-piracy good taste, I would really like my 50$ matching set of 3 coasters to work
Things I have done to get around this problem
1. (link (http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=24012)) Made an image of the file, mounted it on with d-tools - same thing happened (nothing) when trying to start the game. Also uninstalled the game, and reinstalled via the image - same result. Tried with securerom (the CP in use) emulation both on and off.
2. Thought that maybe it didnt like my old Acer peice of crap cd-rom drive, same result with my CD-RW and I just got back from best buy with a DVD-rom drive and that didnt work (though on the upside I can watch dvds heh)
3. I downloaded a program off of gamecopyworld that allegedly would bypass most securerom CP but when I ran it nothing happened and it probably gave my computer aids (great)
So I'm a little lost here. I have this great 50$ plunked down on a game I love, but can't play. Would uninstalling nero/d-tools/alcohol be worthwhile ? Any other sorts of ideas ?
specs for what its worth
AMD 1900+, a snazzy Geforce 2gts (oh yeah baby), a swanky new Sony DVDrom drive (48x cdrom / 16xDVD - set as slave), running on Win2k
