Would I be wrong in assuming it would be a prudent course of action to wait a while before upgrading?

While everyone may bring up the fact that 'there will always be something better in 3 months' it seems to me that 'in 3 months' there will be a substantial difference in the hardware that is available.

I'm mainly speaking of course about the upcoming n4 motherboards + arriving pci-express cards etc.

Would you experts say it's smart to wait around for the amd pci-e introduction or will the wait actually be longer than possibly valuable due to the fact that first generation pci-e mbs won't really run that well anyway?

I could always go intel but I dont really want a furnace running in my computer ;[

PCI-E is a waste of time. It offers virtually no benefits over AGP. Don't expect it to be the next best thing. In fact, there really is no next best thing right around the corner. I think it's a good time to buy because AMD has well-priced socket 939 processors available, and that socket is going to be around a long time. When I bought my socket 754 a couple of months ago, the cheapest 939 was $500.

As to video cards, if you like high end, the high end new cards are starting to come down in price, or you could get a Radeon 9800 Pro for a very good price as well.

Yet not anymore. :P

Although as it stands now, that should be one of the last reasons why you'd pick AMD over Intel.

Yeah and the first being that the A64 is pretty much the most ingenious processor ever designed. It's too bad that Wintel goes too far back, or otherwise you'd see XP 64 released much sooner instead of MS waiting for Intel to get its x86-64 chip going to compete. AMD would probably become the dominant company by far if XP 64 was released in any decent amount of time.
