LaughingBoy 10-31-2004, 11:29 PM How the hell do you do shoot down cappers with a mediocre ping? I can't snipe -em b/c of lag. Hitting with chaingun is also tough b/c of lag. Is there any way besides catching them with a disc or grenade for the .00003 seconds they're on the ground? (Esp. those irritating grapplers! :) )
I think the rocket pod could use an upgrade to even this out a little. After all, the manual says not to jump too high, or risk being nailed by rockets. This is laughable, as exactly the opposite is true. The air is by FAR the safest place, with so many splash weapons and so few reliable fast ones.
Don't get me wrong, the rocket pod is great for taking out stationary targets like sensors, but it's utterly useless with a target moving at even moderate speed.
Any thoughts, or do I just need to learn to lead better? :roller:

pretty much, how bad of a ping are we talking? Much higher than 110-120 and you should probably just play offense.
Arcanox 10-31-2004, 11:34 PM I can't CG for shazbot. It's fine in SP and I tried it on a lan and it makes a huge difference. I can still Cap alright though.
I think there should be an ingame aimbot for the latency challenged :D (just j/king)
Plasmatic 10-31-2004, 11:35 PM Get an aimbot? I hear they're all the rage. :stab: :stab: :stab: :stab: :stab: :stab: :stab:
^Jadakiss 10-31-2004, 11:35 PM use nade launcher + lead shot's well with disk launcher.
TeckMan 10-31-2004, 11:36 PM one big thing about playing with 100+ ping is not to trust the graphics. Your discs will explode, chain will spark, but you hear no ding. Just trust your lead because your shots aren't always going where they appear to on your screen.
sekdar 10-31-2004, 11:38 PM you have to lead your shots - and i don't mean for weapon travel time.
you have to train yourself to shoot so that your cg bullets precisely impact thin air two meters in front of your target. once you get the pinging sound, you'll know you're doing it right.
spend a few hours using nothing but the chaingun and you'll get better real quick. it's your ultimate answer for pulling people out of the sky, unless you can snipe effectively.
Nade spam in FRONT of the flag before they grab... the concussion will knock them off course. Then polish them off.
mouse 10-31-2004, 11:40 PM The netcode is horrible.

Just play in tourney mode. It'll take care of any latency or performance issues.
Celios 11-01-2004, 12:54 AM Your first mistake lies in assuming the rocket pod has a practical application.

Good Idea. I'll try that. Thanks! By the way, I've recently discovered the anti-air turret works pretty well for this, too. Way better than sentry.
See you on the battlefield.

?B-MAN 11-01-2004, 05:55 AM using the gernade launcher helps. Also learn to throw gernades as you fire to deal more damage. Unfortunately TV is a lot like T1 in that its very bandwidth dependent. If you dont have a great connection and your on a server with good players pinging below 70 your going to find it hard to snipe or chaingun. Thats probaly true with a lot of MP games. The more bandwidth the better.
Either way keep practicing, I've seen very good players come on servers with a medicore connection and still compete effectively.
Also, the rocket pod isnt really a good melee weapon (when you are fighting player to player) Its not like the rocket launcher in Quake etc. Its best used to take out vehicles in the air like PODS or bombers. One of the fun aspects of Tribes is finding something on the team that you can do to help your team overall. If you like the Rocket POD, I would practice being like a POD buster. Someone that takes out all those nasty PODs in the air. I'd really like to see some folks beef up their skills in that area because I always hear everyone complain about the POD's but I never see any group of players have an effective tactic and skill to keep them PODS down.
Cardiac 11-01-2004, 06:39 AM I play daily with a 200+ ping .... due to the fact that im in japan! but i find tossing grenades while dueling helps alot.... the only way i seem to manage grapplers it to use fire!
Mortez 11-01-2004, 06:46 AM I played T1 for years with 300-600 ping plus software render.

Che'lu 11-01-2004, 06:48 AM My best ping on any server in US is 230+ only cause I'm in Guam. Best thing for you to do is change from D to O. When I was in Vegas I played a lot of D. Now, cause of the move, I've switched to O, mainly capper. If I get bored, or its a stand off, I'll HO.
Just dont cheat to get the edge. I seriously hate cheaters only cause it degrates the game. Hopefully they patch it up for the current exploits that are out there.
Hand grenades are all the anti-air you'll ever need.
Amadeus 11-01-2004, 08:00 AM Buckler works well if you can catch up.
Arcanox 11-01-2004, 08:10 AM Mine disking the flag works really well too.
starwolf_nexus 11-01-2004, 08:14 AM buclkler ha, you're serious? you would have to be holding the capers hand to use it and hit him with the short range of it
