Godfighter 10-24-2004, 12:14 AM Tribes:v has protection that can/will cause some of us greif
if your system has any emulation software enabled such as alch 120% daemontools and the like you may not beable to play
also if you tend to back ur orignals up (as is you LEIGAL RIGHT in the USA) you will be told you cant run from them or that theres a conflict with emulation software
these protections dont stop piracy as menny studys have showen they only hert people like me and hopefully you who buy good games and then wish to keep there orignals safe from things such as kids, pets, crazy weman, morons
they DO NOT EVEN EFFECT piracy beond making it take about 20sec longer for them to post a working warez version
it has been like this for years why cant sierra and other game companys figuar it out are they so stupid as to not get that if somebody wants to pirat a game/app they are gonna beable to find a way
i use a laptop about 1/2 the time to play games as i watch tv(watch tv as i play T:V) and its a pain having to keep my cd in the drive it eats batt power and exposes my ONLY copy to possable damnage due to there being kids, morons, pets and other dangrous monsters around the house
i normaly image my games to my hdd using my main system (has best drives) then move it to the laptop so i can play off the image saving my disk from ware and possable/probbable damnage
i dont feel i should have to crack the exe to beable to do this (not that its hard but hey)
specly when i have a cd key i MUST enter to play
why couldnt they use a system like tribes2 that used the cd key to simply make an account this was far more effective then any cd protection ever will be becouse they where able to acctuly keep track of keys that where ligit and those that wherent
just my thoughts on the subject
sorry about my grammer and spelling i know it sucks and its even worse when im on muscle relaxers :(
and to be clear im against pirating good games that have good support from a good company
some companys deserve to be pirated and not be payed for things (see atari and unreal2/xmp unreal2:se)
i payed 40$ to be treated like a pirat/theif i REALLY have a problem with that :fu: :fu: :fu:
TeckMan 10-24-2004, 12:16 AM also if you tend to back ur orignals up (as is you LEIGAL RIGHT in the USA)

cd protection sux was the topic not grammer and spelling. If you cant say something constructive that has something to do with the topic at hand then DONT POST!
Shoddy 10-24-2004, 01:20 AM Actually those were the nice people.
There have been a number of threads complaining about the use of SecurROM if its any consolation.
Vegita_Son 10-24-2004, 01:35 AM Tribes:V has copy protection that can/will cause some of us grief.
If your system has any emulation software enabled such as Alcohol 120%, Daemon Tools, and the like you may not be able to play the game.
Also, if you tend to backup your originals (as is your LEGAL RIGHT in the USA) you will be told you can’t run the game from those backups, or that there is a conflict with your emulation software.
These protections don’t stop piracy, as many studies have shown. They only hurt people like me and hopefully you who buy good games and then wish to keep their originals safe from things such as kids, pets, crazy women, or morons. They DO NOT EVEN EFFECT piracy beyond making it take about 20sec longer for pirates to post a working warez version.
It has been like this for years. Why cant sierra and other game companies figure it out? Are they so stupid as to not get that if somebody wants to pirate a game/app they are going to be able to find a way?
I use a laptop about 1/2 of the time to play games as I watch TV (watch TV as I play T:V) and its a pain having to keep my cd in the drive. It eats battery power and exposes my ONLY copy to possible damage due to there being kids/morons/pets and other dangerous monsters around the house.
I normally image my games to my hdd using my main system (has best drives) then move them to the laptop so I can play off the image, saving my disk from wear and possible/probable damage.
I don’t feel that I should have to crack the exe to be able to do this (not that its hard, but hey), especially when I have a cd key I MUST enter to play.
Why couldn’t they use a system like tribes2 that used the cd key to simply make an account? This was far more effective than any cd protection ever will be because they were able to actually keep track of keys that weere legit and those that weren’t. Just my thoughts on the subject.
Sorry about my grammar and spelling. I know it sucks and it’s even worse when I’m on muscle relaxants.
To be clear, I’m against pirating good games that have good support from a good company.
Some companies deserve to be pirated and not be paid for things (see Atari and unreal2/xmp unreal2:se).
I paid 40$ to be treated like a pirate/thief? I REALLY have a problem with that.
I agree with most of your points. Quoted for clarity.

Nice post. I agree with you. Enjoy your stay at TribalWar. Have a nice evening.
Mr_Unlucky 10-24-2004, 01:52 AM Yeah, if you can't get around securom for personal backups, you don't deserve to have the game.
ViRGE 10-24-2004, 02:33 AM You're a bit late on the gripe, bub; people have been complaining about SecureROM for over 2 weeks now. :p When all piracy goes away, they'll stop putting protection on it, and in the mean time you're just going to have to deal with it.
PF Prophet 10-24-2004, 03:02 AM I think the point is that it dosnt stop piracy and you shouldnt punish those who buy something for the acctions of those who never will.
And in reality if everybody who has a problem with it emails/posts about it for each and every game they buy the companys will get tired of dealing with it.
they loost more$ by using these protections then they gain. I personaly know a sizeable group of people that refuse to buy games with cd protections that wont allow you to make a backup.
and MU yeah its not to hard to get around just extract the working exe using any one of the menny tools out there. BUT why should I or any other persion who clearly BOUGHT the game have to do that??? we own it why should we be treated like we are trying to steal it ?
take the case of NEVERWINTER NIGHTS people where having trobble with the protection so bioware/atari just patched it out of the game (and expantions) becouse people complained to them and made it clear they would be returning it for a full refund if something wasnt done.
the sierra forums remove any posts complaining strongly about this issue so ifyour going to post you need to do it other places they look.
I made a post on a couple other forums that I KNOW sierra checks others are doing the same. I think that if every person that has a problem being treated like a theif would post/email then maby sierra would get the point that they need to do something befor people deside not to bother with halflife2 becouse its going to be such a hassle to deal with buggy useness crash prone "protection"
