DonkeyofDoom 10-23-2004, 01:15 PM After some practice with a clan mate we have come to this conclusion because
A: They go faster on those really really fast routes.
B: They have 25% more health
C: The buckler is awesome for stopping MAs
D: Light + mine = 5 health Medium + mine = 30 health (Pivotal in maps like DX).
E: Grapple-jump seems slightly more effective for them
Are mediums better cappers in the perfect route situation?
What about in a pub situation?
Comp situation?

DonkeyofDoom 10-23-2004, 01:20 PM Have you tried it? Sure they are harder and you need to plan the way home too but they seem better for avg caps.
ZenTseTse 10-23-2004, 01:23 PM Mediums look lame, so who cares...
TeckMan 10-23-2004, 01:26 PM Personally I'm more afraid of the light w/ shield than medium. A few discs infront of a medium and they seem dead in their tracks.
DonkeyofDoom 10-23-2004, 01:28 PM They have the buckler to block around 40% of their body tho...

ptmfr 10-23-2004, 01:29 PM Don't underestimate the buckler, it makes it a LOT harder to disc/chain a capper.
}x{ EViL JiM 10-23-2004, 01:44 PM I think mediums have potential, but the routes will obviously be more difficult. Much like naked capping evolved on many maps, so will medium capping for those who are willing to learn how, and those who take the time to learn will reap the benifits. I think a good question is.. is a medium with a energy pack faster than a light with a shield pack?
light with epack is still the best for capping

Not always. Sometimes you'll want that extra health and/or the few seconds of near-invulnerability to get through the defense and still have a good chance of not getting chainwhored on your way back.

Not needed with a coordinated Offense.
mc-fine 10-23-2004, 02:14 PM Depends on map size.
If bases are real close its worthwhile otherwise light and energy pack is where its at.
depends on maps and routes.
most of the time, light + epack is best, but medium can always come in handy if u can hit a fastroute with it.
Thriky 10-23-2004, 02:23 PM I wouldn't say a medium is better, but it depends on what the light is using. Light with a shield pack is actually surprisingly effective I've found as of late. If you get used to the slightly lesser energy replenishment speed, you can ski at pretty much the same level of speed as you can with an energy pack.
The active shield is absolutely incredible for the actual grab, as most of the stuff that would kill you on an e-pack grab (mines, grenade spammers, etc) won't kill you - and since with an active shield you can disc-jump with roughly only 10% of your health being taken away, getting away quickly is no problem.
Combine a light, a shield pack and a skilled grappler, and you have one nasty mofo of a capper on your hands. The traditional epack/light combo is still very useful, but the added strength of mines in t:v can seriously screw things up for them in cases of an organised defence.
dudeman 10-23-2004, 02:43 PM eh, I think mediums will be the useless class as usual... you can try to learn it but the advantages to the other ones are much more immediate...
Thriky 10-23-2004, 02:47 PM Medium does make a good defence.
°Gn0m3_Gr0wN° 10-23-2004, 02:49 PM mediums work better at D than capping
impulse 10-23-2004, 02:57 PM i prefer light when capping.
i havent experiemented much with medium, and as said above, i really dont see a point. i can cause more damage in light and have better mobility than i can in medium...
Orcus 10-23-2004, 03:50 PM I almost exclusively cap medium. I don't understand why people would use a light when you can hit the same routes just as fast as a medium. Shield + medium + good route = kick ass!
