Gee, I wonder what this guy would have thought about Tribes or Tribes 2. Do you suppose both of those have that "been there a million times" feel?

uhh the review is "SP sucks HL2 has the best SP of all time. I don't feel like writing about MP because CS:S is coming out soon"

Nothing we didn't know all ready.

I think this calls for a forum invasion: http://www.gamingforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1025

HL2 and CS:S are obviously going to be better polish wise than TV; they were in development far longer than TV. they had the advantage of custom making a game engine around their wants and needs. and they are going to look better because HL2 is like a generation V game. does that meant TV is bad? no, people should just stop saying it sucks because the graphics arnt as good as a game thats been in R & D for what, 4 years?

Another thing that particularly irked me was the lack of character customization for multiplayer. All you are able to choose from is light, normal, and heavy armor configurations, and two of the armor types have alternate color patterns—that's it. I mean, for the love of god, there are a ton of different character models shown throughout the single player, at least let me choose one of them that has a face, instead of a lifeless helmet.
Goddamn snob.

I like how he says the only good sp maps are the arena ones
he is quite possibly a focused, bizarro version of TW

i cant say i have, i figued it best not to shell out for a game im fairly sure i wont enjoy. ive played lots of games like CS (AA, R6 ...etc) so i figured id stick with those. if i buy HL2 (which i might but the special edition that has HL1 on source bundled) i will play it, otherwise, ill just stick to the alternatives.

I was just checking the jump animation and it is there. It looks like it was intended to work with the jet animation, sort of transitional. I mean shazbot there are like three ski animations, slow, fast, blistering. That guy sucks.

Don't be so hard on the reviewer I don't think he is a gamer. If he was he could not have made all those mistakes in the review... and he spelled almost every word correctly. No way he plays video games.

Why do people care what some two-bit hack writing for an inconsequential website says?

I'd have to disagree with his assessment.

The primary reason for the sp is to acclimate n00bs, that it does well.
It also fills in backstory gaps.
All in all, I think it does what was intended nicely.

As far as not fitting what the reviewer sees as sop for tribes, this is a paradigm shift, sorry he can't keep up.

Aha! He's on loan from G4TV.

anytime someone said anything remotely negative about T:V they are called morons, or idiots ....

"Tribes: Vengeance is by no means a bad, but it chose one of the worst times to be released that it possibly could. DOOM 3 and Call of Duty: United Offensive still provide absolutely amazing single-player experiences, while Halo 2 and Half-Life 2, two of the biggest FPSs to ever be released, are just around the corner. Do yourself a favor, and save up for the games, which will be absolutely revolutionary, instead of compromising for Vengeance's "been there a million times before, done that even more times" feel."

he hit this right on the button .... you guys just need to open your eyes and look at the whole picture :idear:

Admittedly, it's a badtime to release, but Doom3's - why can't I tape my flashlight to my gun? - was by no means amazing, nor is ANOTHER Call of Duty addition. Halo - Ooooh - I can hold 2 weapons at once - BRILLIANT! Half Life 2 - "absolutely revolutionary" - we'll have to see.

Doom 3 was meant to be played with the flash light in hand, player who cry about that are stupid to that fact. T:V SP was in no way involving. The story was nice, but the game play was repetitive and wave based (I kill wave, wait for second wave, I kill wave, rinse and repeat). CoD SP was by far more involving. Halo 2 (is) a very nice game, although not revolutionary.

Overall, the story in Vengeance really is not all that bad. It's certainly nothing revolutionary at all, I'm hoping Half-Life 2 manages to raise the bar for FPS stories once again, but it's definitely enough to keep your attention.

What story did half life have? I remember a lot of mindless killing of aliens that kept spawning behind you and the occasional and cliche boss fights. What bar was raised?

The same, however, cannot be said of the weapons in the game, as there are only four out of the eight weapons which I'd choose to use in a multiplayer game: the explosive disc shooter, the shotgun, and the sniper rifle.

No grappler? No grenade launcher? No CHAINGUN? The shotgun? Please.

Throughout the game, I found myself wishing for more unique and inventive weapons (maybe a secondary firing mode for each), as the current set is completely bland and archetypical of every FPS weapon set ever created.

Ok, there are 4 different weapons in ANY game: lob (grenade/mortar), line (disk), hitscan (duh), and rapid fire (chaingun). How inventive.

(though the tank has a very mild "jump" function and the buggy has turbo boosters)

Funny how he left out the part about the tank skiing

And then he goes on about how doom 3 has an amazing single player.

God, this review REEKS with bias.

Hmm so he wants more weapons...I'm betting the Shark attack weapon in recently released game was one of his favorites (sorry can't remember Title).

This guy offers no substantive gameplay opinions or how balanced-unbalanced it is, he's all about weapon variety and a graphic tart to boot. Probably spent all of an hour on his review.
