hof is a harder position to play, alot of people have given up on it, but i tell you, that once you have seen a truely good HoF, you will never under estimate the position again
First (?) really negative review of T:VGreywolf 10-22-2004, 08:24 AM hof is a harder position to play, alot of people have given up on it, but i tell you, that once you have seen a truely good HoF, you will never under estimate the position again Wiggle! 10-22-2004, 08:26 AM lol i scrimmed with kore and tau and i play just about every position. just because everything got boring. shrug Blitz 10-22-2004, 08:39 AM I run my mouth too much. Wrathchild 10-22-2004, 08:40 AM Just read the review, I think it's accurate. Poorly written, but I agree with the facts. Blitz 10-22-2004, 08:40 AM hof is a harder position to play, alot of people have given up on it, but i tell you, that once you have seen a truely good HoF, you will never under estimate the position again agreed. Which is why I wish to master this position. KnightMare 10-22-2004, 09:14 AM that link barely talked about the gameplay and yet people agree with it, thats just crazy. Fool 10-22-2004, 09:21 AM Why do people care what some two-bit hack writing for an inconsequential website says? Piata 10-22-2004, 09:26 AM Just read the review, I think it's accurate. Poorly written, but I agree with the facts. WTF?! did you even read it? he bitches about lights and mediums not being able to use mortars. MORTARS. Anyone that agrees with this guy should be shot in the balls and left there to bleed to death. Proximus 10-22-2004, 09:44 AM its shazbot review the guy has no clue tbh the worst part about T:V is stupid release : -no dedicated server without cd -seperate release europe and usa -europe version unable to patch -lack of advertising in mags etc this is wots hurting tv the most atm someone needs to slap these publishers coz they havent done their job Wrathchild 10-22-2004, 10:10 AM It's written from the view of a non-tw'er, that doesn't make it wrong or stupid. It touches on exactly why T:V won't do well, the average person is not going to like it. And even being a huge Tribes fan, I'm starting to like it less the more I play too. I think T:V was an awesome effort at getting back to T1 play, but it just doesn't appeal to me anymore. mEEK 10-22-2004, 10:29 AM epic thread of teh century. :D Data 10-22-2004, 10:50 AM anytime someone said anything remotely negative about T:V they are called morons, or idiots .... "Tribes: Vengeance is by no means a bad, but it chose one of the worst times to be released that it possibly could. DOOM 3 and Call of Duty: United Offensive still provide absolutely amazing single-player experiences, while Halo 2 and Half-Life 2, two of the biggest FPSs to ever be released, are just around the corner. Do yourself a favor, and save up for the games, which will be absolutely revolutionary, instead of compromising for Vengeance's "been there a million times before, done that even more times" feel." he hit this right on the button .... you guys just need to open your eyes and look at the whole picture :idear:  Yeah, cause there are SO MANY GAMES with jetpacks and skiing. Holy f*ck, this is why I don't read Tribes Talk anymore. You noobs are beyond stupid. BlueBlaze 10-22-2004, 10:53 AM Trent Polack  hfingers 10-22-2004, 10:55 AM I STOPPED playing this game because of people like YOU. 09:19:45 <WIGGLE> its like 5% actual good players, 30% that suck ass, and 65% people that suck and think they rock The game is ass slow and boring. Any ol newbie can put up a fight now. If the game is so dumbed down Wiggle, how come only 5% are good? Hansel 10-22-2004, 10:58 AM Doom 3 SP was bad, i didnt even want to finish it. And the Doom 3 MP.. oh wait. BFGanksta 10-22-2004, 11:03 AM Do yourself a favor, and save up for the games, which will be absolutely revolutionary, instead of compromising for Vengeance's "been there a ONCE before, done that ONE time" feel. *Fixed His article seems to pretty much knock the polish of T:V. Animation wise I wonder how many people play online and hate it because of the lack of a jump animation? My grievance with the animations is the local taunts lacking in difference, between each other and each gender. dudeman 10-22-2004, 11:06 AM "Throughout the game, I found myself wishing for more unique and inventive weapons (maybe a secondary firing mode for each)" It's had the majority of these weapons since TRIBES 1. The guy is a major asshat. Vyrticl 10-22-2004, 11:10 AM Aside from this, the missions are incredibly dull and predictable—how many times can they possibly thrust the player into a room, have it lock under some circumstance, then make the player fight through enemies while an ally finds a way to unlock it? I mean, really. Oh, and the AI in the game is nonexistent; if an enemy sees you, he'll hunt you down, even if you're decked out in heavy armor, and all he has is light armor and a pea-shooting chaingun. I mean, come on, is this the best game developers can provide us with in this day and age? That's ALL DOOM 3 does and later in the review you say DOOM 3 has AWESOME singe-player! At least T:V gives some different scenarios. Also about the A.I., I remember that in DOOM 3 no matter what the stupid zombies would always come after you even though you have a gun and they don't. Warriors are just like zombies you idiot, I would rather die from an enemy that face the pain of not obeying an order of my commander. The same, however, cannot be said of the weapons in the game, as there are only four out of the eight weapons which I'd choose to use in a multiplayer game: the explosive disc shooter, the shotgun, and the sniper rifle. The rocket pod is mildly strong, but is only suited for use against vehicles—using it against anything else is simply impractical. The mortar is a nice weapon when you want to launch a siege against an enemy base, or dropping a nice little present for an unsuspecting friend in a lower area; however, this weapon is only usable by heavy armor, in which case light/medium armors have to resort to the grenade launcher, which is infinitely worse. WTF! Any good Tribes player would know that every weapon (except maybe the blaster aka "shotgun") has it's place in the game. Why he doesn't see the usefulness of the grappler, buckler, mortar, grenade launcher, chaingun is beyond me. He apparently doesn't know how to play the game. Tribes: Vengeance uses a heavily modified Unreal engine, which works very well in the game. The terrain looks absolutely gorgeous and the characters look great (more on this particular emphasis in a moment). The water looks nice, too, although after seeing the water rendering that the Half-Life 2 Source engine has, I doubt I'll ever be impressed by non-refracting water renderers ever again. On top of these accolades, the game makes heavy use of the increasingly popular "bloom" effect, by having all sorts of shazbot glow with endless prettiness—the amount of glowing, in fact, almost rivals that seen in Tron 2.0 (ie. Tribes: Vengeance goes way the hell overboard, being that it isn't set in a glowing computer world). During a review you're supposed to compare to games that have ALREADY BEEN RELEASED. Stupid HL2 fanboys should not be allowed to review anymore games. On top of that, compared to other games out there T:V does NOT use a lot of glow. Has this reviewer ever played Far Cry or Prince of Persia? Those games glow like their life depends on it. Another thing that particularly irked me was the lack of character customization for multiplayer. All you are able to choose from is light, normal, and heavy armor configurations, and two of the armor types have alternate color patterns—that's it. I mean, for the love of god, there are a ton of different character models shown throughout the single player, at least let me choose one of them that has a face, instead of a lifeless helmet.[QUOTE] WTF, why does a game need to have 47892586 different models to play a game? In fact later in the review he talks about revolutionary games like Halo 2, the multiplayer in that you can't choose to have Master Chief show his face. [QUOTE]That said, throughout the single-player game, you'll be forced to listen to the most horrific excuse for voice-acting that I've ever heard in my entire life. It's as if every line is forced through a drunk ten-year-old's mouth in an effort to sound dramatic, though all it comes off as is some overly melodramatic writing through the mouth of an "actor" who has no idea what the concept of emotion is, much less any actual emotions of his/her own. Yes, it's just that bad. Do yourself a favor, turn off the voices, turn on the subtitles, and just save your ears the absolute pain of Vengeance's poor excuse for hired voice actors. If that's an exaggeration I don't know what is. I think he got pissed off too many times from dying on hard mode thinking he's a 1337 tribes player that he decided to start dissing everything about it. Tribes: Vengeance is by no means a bad, but it chose one of the worst times to be released that it possibly could. DOOM 3 and Call of Duty: United Offensive still provide absolutely amazing single-player experiences ROFLMAO! DOOM 3 single-player sucked! All it was, was go into one room, get locked in and kill the monsters. Oh yeah remember to look behind you because when's coming up there to! COD: UA sucks because there's WAY too many WWII games out already, stop making them! Pachacutec 10-22-2004, 11:20 AM  Yeah, cause there are SO MANY GAMES with jetpacks and skiing. Holy f*ck, this is why I don't read Tribes Talk anymore. You noobs are beyond stupid. yup. i'm guessing the reviewer STILL couldn't ski despite the ski button, and hates getting owned by MA's when he can't hit a goddamn thing, as for SP, I can't agree. there are revolutionary aspects in both CoD and D3, (movie-type immersion, and graphics respectively) but Tribes SP overall is much more engaging, because it feels new, unlike the other ones. I know what happens in CoD SP, I'll probably get back to it after 3-4 months. D3 sp, doubt I'll ever finish it. in terms of revolutionary D3 SP, I think that revolution happened better the first time, when it was called Half-Life. Actually I can't wait till Half-Life Source comes out, I think that's a great idea :) I already have my Steam package, so maybe I can devote some weeks to doing HL1 and 2 back to back :) mc-fine 10-22-2004, 11:22 AM When a 'reviewer' says the arena missions were the best part of T:V SP and the weapons like the buckler are typical of all FPS games it stops being a review and becomes a waste of time. | ||
