My point is that TV doesnt appeal to the large scale players and neither to the straigt-action players. No idea for which kind of players its desinged.
No, it doesn't. It is a unique game. Nobody is expecting T:V to have numbers anywhere near CS or bf1942. We know this game will not pull many people away from those games.

Those graphs aren't 100% accurate. I've seen the player count at over 800 in the in-game browser.
It's also counting bots as players in T2.
I hope any influence from the few 'elites' in the community and z&z will be decreased in any future versions of tribes. I think after the classic release in T2 and now with T:V, they do not know how to make an addictive game.
You could see this coming though. The majority of people who pubbed in T2/T1 played on base servers. The ladder in TWL for 12 man base had 40+ teams for 2 years. Peaking to 80+ I believe. The base++ ladder had a lot of teams too.
And the changes they made in T:V were an overreaction to the badly designed maps in T2. Tell that story in another post when I'm really bored...
I'll buy T:V when it drops down to $25-30 $CAN and if guildwars/hl2 doesn't take my money first.
Conclusion: The elites and z&z haven't figured out the tribes forumula. They should be relegated to making secondary mods and not the main base one. Refer to Qing and his version 2 mod, he's someone who got it right.

You might not like what I said, but the success of t:v in the next few months, will ultimately determine which of us is right. I wait at least till x-mas before I thoroughly lambaste t:v...or eat my words.
BrightEyes, like always, makes a stupid comment that shows his stupidity and lack of IQ. Good thing I have him ignored. :)

Oxymoron.
Its amazing that you devote so much of your time to a game you complain is absolutely terrible.
We can either look at you as some kind of missionary coming to cleanse us poor ignorant folk of the blasphemy that is Tribes: Vengeance, or as an absolute loser who gets his kicks out of being a senseless, flaming moron; maybe even both.
Yes, in reference to the initial poster, we all should accept the fact that Tribes is a niche game that will probably never beat out most other major games in sales.

just out of curiosity, why is it that people think Tribes 2 sold over 200,000 copies in six months? There was definitely no huge advertising campaign. My own opinion is that the in game recruititment and help forums facilitated the growth of clans and helped with the learning curve, without ever having to "leave" the game.
I also agree with other posters that there are just a good number of pretty cool multiplayer games out there...I think Quake, CS and Unreal series were the major competition for T2.
If you look at the gamespy stats, there is a clear trend: military games are at the top of the heap: CoD, MoH, RTCWbel, AA, BF1942, these are the big draws for multiplayer. If you consiider CS to be a military sim, then it joins the pack. My clan lost about six hardcore tribes players to planetside as well.
Tribes falls into the "second" general category of more "science fiction" or "less than realistic" shooters: Unreal, quake, halo, star wars, etc.
None of the really good military shooters was in full swing for those first six months of T2, if I am correct. Certainly not CoD or BF1942, nor AA, nor MOH.
I guess what I am saying is that T2 was the first game to give a substantial alternative to CS, unreal, and quake players, hence the big draw. I remember in the early days of T2 all the people in the in-game chat saying "do you play CS" or "this is way better than CS" or "CS is way better than this."
anyway, sorry for rambling, but just some thoughts. I was originally pretty hostile to TV, but it's starting to grow on me.
